You're referring to 3 guys 1 hammer, right? In all honesty, that video barely affects me anymore. I have seen it more than once, and I simply have come to accept that some things do not require an explanation, they simply exist.
Why on god's earth would you watch it more them once?

Yet if being able to witness tragedies second-hand becomes commonplace how will a younger generation learn to cope with something that directly affects them if they are so desensitised to it? Then again, perhaps this is the next step for the human race, a gruesome acceptance of the brutality people will inflict on one another.
I would disagree about desensitisation being the next step - this happens with each and every generation that doesn't isolate itself from the world and reality. It is inevitable (precluding isolation).

I can only use myself as an example. I am desensitised to many types of violence and depraved acts, but I never condone/accept them. If I, and many others, can cope with the knowledge of and understanding of the horrible deeds that people can inflict on each other, then I'm sure the generations to come will be able to as well.
Yeah, I suppose that's how they got the title 'shock videos'. Of course you see this thread was a result of my shock on seeing this particular video. Some people post reaction videos on youtube, I decide to try and blow it up into a discussion on the nature of the internet in this day and age. While atrocities happen all over the world everyday and (here's a chilling thought) as I type this somewhere in the world right now someone is probably murdering someone else and there is not a thing I or anyone else can do about it, it becomes more apparent when this content is widely available. However, I suppose in the time it's taken us to get this far as species many people in the past would've witnessed horrific things first hand, gritted their teeth and got on with it. Perhaps we won't all become desensitised, we'll just continue becoming more cynical, a fashion which is already too popular.

I'm not sure what that is, so I'll just say no.

The BME pain Olympics is basically a video of a bunch of guys chopping off their manhood and or important digits. It scarred me for life.

Also, I love how this thread has become a game of "Guess the video I watched!".

It's alright, it happens. I made a thread last night that was misinterpreted and people thought I was ripping-off another guys thread, a lot of the posts were just to complain.

I feel like Batman sometimes, taking really meaningless information and finding the hidden truths, with that said my next project is to come up with some sort of human genophage because obviously if we don't do it something else will and for good reason.

Also, you do realize the BME pain olympics video is fake right? The same video is on the site and at the end it has a disclaimer stating that the events were staged, most other places that post it don't have the disclaimer.

Well... I'm posting this fresh from watching a certain video that has gained notoriety over the last couple of years.

I wonder which one? There's been many videos recently..... can you acronym the title or something?

*reads above posts* oh THAT one.....haven't seen it myself but I know one or two people who have.

There's always going to be sick people out there. I don't know if desensitisation will come to an end ever, or whether anything is actually not allowed. The internet is more a place, where there really are no laws. It's a pity but some things will always exist no matter just how WTF WHY they are. I suppose some things should be censored but who decides that?

That's the curse/blessing of the internet. It's damn near impossible to censor. This means we can witness something with all its artistic integrity and... well things like this will pop up also. It's not up to anyone to decide to censor things. However when videos like this become viral it gives the internet a bad image. It's not all doom and gloom, as you know, we can simply choose to ignore it but I think it disturbs some people that it IS available. Video games are always under fire for something out of nothing better to blame, the last thing we need is a media shitstorm kicking up over a tool that has become a part of everyday life for most of us. Then again it might not happen.

This is true - That's partly why I love the internet, it's just so versatile, so....powerful. There really is nothing you can't do with it, if something gets on there it'll stay on there. Viral videos are a great example of this. There would be no way to get something taken down permanently.

It's a pity about the crap image shock sites and vids get the internet, but.....well somebody is always going to want to find that shit.

And some of the less-revolting shockers are kind of funny to spring on people, I admit.
