sorry, tl;dr.
will there be complete youtube integration, or just youtube trending? not that i do much on my 360 besides play skyrim, new vegas, and reach, but it would be cool to watch my youtube subscriptions on a bigger screen than my mbp.
READ THE F#%&! ARTICLE!!!

and should be all of youtube not just trending

Looks like it could be nice.

Though I don't know why, but the Kinectimals line in the last picture, "Now With Bears", cracks me up. It's new and improved with 100% more bears, watch out Stephen Colbert. =P

It's almost enough to make me wish I got a 360 instead and just dealt with the fee and the rrod. In retrospect it seems a small price to pay for decent firmware updates and ports that aren't complete crap.
Well the rrod thing was more on the luck of the consumer, because my friend's 360 lasted for four years before it ringed, I think it was a good thing for him because that was when the new 360 slims were coming out and he got one with a 250GB hard drive, much much bigger than his original drive. The only hassle was transferring his profile and all his data from the old drive to the new one. It takes buying a special device and then once he transferred the data, he had to log on with the new drive while he was logged on to the site on his computer, so it would sync up and confirm he was who he said he was, because when you transfer profiles and DLC and such to a new drive, it breaks the licenses on the items so that they can't be used. Then once the broken licenses were verified, he had to re-download all of his DLC and XBLA games.

I'm really happy that I got a 360, of course I got it because it is what all my friends have, though the Wii was my first console of the generation, because up until I got a 360 I was Nintendo gamer through and through. But of course allegiances really are only formed through lack of money, because truthfully, if I had the money I would own every system from every generation and any other PCs and electronics I could get my hands on. I am an uber-gamer in that sense that I'll try and play most everything.

1. I'm afraid of the cloud saves. A 8 GB memory stick has served me well and I have my gamertag on the go since the beginning with MS's overpriced 512 MB memory card.

2. I just want to hide all the tabs and channels and ads. Seriously... one of the perks of paying for live should be turning off the ads. I play offline a lot because I don't want to see all that crap on my system.

See? That would've pissed me off anyway...even after 4 years. These things cost enough that they should last much longer than that. If they want to make it disposable, it should've been a lot cheaper.
And cost isn't always the deciding factor. For me it's space: living in a (actually relatively decently sized) city apartment doesn't exactly allow for a "rumpus room"...do people still have those? Do people still "rumpus?"
Then again, it?s not like the ps3 worked out much better for me: when I tried replacing the HDD, the machine broke on me...and I wasn?t exactly being rough with it or using my electro-magnetized screwdriver. It was under warranty, so I got a new one right away but then the backup utility (which , to be fair, sounds a hell of a lot simpler than that for the 360) hardly worked. I was able to carry over a few saves but most of them made me start over or continue without the ability to earn trophies; I?m assuming they sandbagged the feature so people wouldn?t cheat to get achievement trophies... Y?know, because they?re worth so damn much. - was that dripping with enough sarcasm?

In fact, from the experiences I?ve gathered from myself and various gaming friends is that all the consoles were complete crap in one way or another this generation and I wouldn?t have been happy with any of them. No wonder I mostly play on the PC now. If someone made a console that got both good hardware AND good support, I would?ve happily paid even the absurd launch prices.

ahhh why is everything changing... first nexus modding site (clusterfuck design) then youtube, facebook is following soon, now xbox dashboard! oh well least it looks okay...ish
At least they're trying. As a PS3 owner I have to say that I'm still not sure if it's worth paying for but at least they're trying to improve it. Sony seems to have completely given up on improving the PS3; update 4.0 was just to set it up as a server for their new handheld...which is certain to get terrible firmware support too.

Also, once I got used to it, I kind of feel like the nexus site works better...browsing wise at least. I'm not sure if I've actually downloaded anything from there since the change.
Since i have a 360 and my step dad has a PS3 i can agree with you there... i hate his interface compared to the 360... and as weird as it sounds my step dad is a huge ps3 fanboy (fanman?) he hates me as soon as i mention the xbox but he does like the layout more 0_o

ive given up on nexus lol, i just really hate how mods are sorted now, especially the tracking centre... so pleased skyrim is going to use steamworks for mods, not tht ive ever seen or had anything to do with steamworks (could be worse for all i know)

Soo, what does this mean for Europe? Will we even get anything interesting from this, or are we screwed like always?
The new menu looks... Fine. I'll have to wait until I've tried it out personally, a menu should be judged by its accessibility and its speed to use.

I'm interested in the cloud gaming idea. I have a 360 Slim and my friend has an older 360, so I can't bring my saved games with me because the Slim's hard drive isn't compatible. It would be cool if I could just download my saves from the cloud instead of having to bring my whole 360 with me.

Otherwise, I have it set to start the game in the tray when I turn it on, so I hardly ever see the dashboard. Any changes they make to it won't affect me too much.

soooo... no Skype integration then? What the hell was the point of buying skype if they weren't going to add it to live?
This. I was genuinely excited when I heard about Skype integration.

Still waiting, Microsoft, still waiting. Maybe you should do something with your 8.5 billion dollar purchase, hmmm?

uhhhh...dunno how that'll work for me. the NXE was alright, even if it seemed pointless to scroll to the friends section when I could just bring up the guide button (which is still just faster in general). not really using many of the features aside from gaming (used Netflix a little). I guess YouTube is nice :p

the updates to Xbox.com that have already been implemented are great however

I was a Playstation fan when all I had was the PS2. But after getting a PSP & PS3, I'm done with the Playstation brand. However, I can?t say I?ll likely be getting the neXbox when that rolls around either. Maybe I will if after a few years there isn?t any word of any big defects or they don?t raise the price of live but how likely is any of that.

No, I think I?m going to be strictly a PC gamer for a while. Sure we get shitty ports too but at least we can occasionally do something about it.

And maybe it's just my general misanthropy but...what is it with this social obsession everyone has? Does facebook REALLY have to be available to a person every single nanosecond of there day?
As someone who doesn't have a Facebook account, it does annoy me a bit. I feel like a social leper enough as it is; but I'm of the belief that if someone doesn't have the time to speak to me face to face or even pick up the phone then they can fuck off.

Anyhoo, I'm very interested in this Beacon feature. I can see that getting a bit of use from my house.

Damn straight! I use Skype to talk to my brother in Canada and he spends a lot of his free time on his 360. It would make things simpler for me.

Microsoft, you know what we're thinking. Why wasn't the Kinect readily usable with the main dashboard? It's extremely simple and it doesn't take that much effort to adapt.

Loving the sound of this! One of my favourite things to do with my xbox is to turn it on and start a game up whilst doing something else in the room, using the voice control. I'm excited to see the new kinect voice options!

Lol @ the screenshots. Who is playing Kinectimals? I was once on an Uno crush, but even small children lose interest in that game quick.

This arbitrary dashboard nonsense needs to stop. Let us design our own templates. Give us options to play with. I liked it better when it was the blades that swoosh-swooshed. And the rainbow of colors. It was first-draft perfect in a way that ran smooth and only 'locked up' during the first 1.5 seconds of signing online. This minor hiccup occurs on my current 1year/9month old system more often than it did versus its first generation (the xbox's with the metal enclosure around the power plug). This could all be brought back without sacrificing our precious Mii people that some of us might have spent money on because they wanted their Avatar to wear a Bioshock BURN! shirt.

Meanwhileis looking at grey/white windows with slightly shaded borders, with boxes that fill the whole screen intrusively rather than sliding out all meek from the screen's corners is strange, combine with the main screen, which is (thankfully) your choice of background, with backdrops for your avatar. And from your point of view it looks as though they are standing on a strange tilted horizon, flipping through TV channel windows that whiz by your avatar.

What happened to little ads in boxed in under information, blinking or bubbling pleasantly like chemicals in a lab set? And the metallic panels that shifted? It was like turning a bauble over in your hands, pressing different buttons--it felt like it should have: an interface, a device, organic and complex, a widgit, a doodad. Nowadays it feels as though it only exists to visually compliment Netflix.

So aside from the fact that we can now watch YouTube on our 360s, do we get anything really substantial?

No? Just a bit of reorganization and whatnot? No new features? Oh, catering to the Kinect crowd and marketing specific apps and programs that are directly under your payroll, Microsoft.

... Well, at least it looks easier to navigate than the newest YouTube interface. *shudders* Oh god.

Same here, but watch them monitor what youtube videos you watch. I hang out in "that" area of youtube, all the weird stuff.

its EA origin all over again.
