Well, again, super-heroics cost money. That scene in "Man Of Steel" probably cost a few million dollars to make.
There are a number of TV hero shows where they manage to do heroic stuff. On Smallville, they really did some fantastic stuff.

I'm more excited about the Netflix project: 4 super hero 13 episode shows culminating in a TV Defeneder's movie.

At any rate love it or hate it, I think on some levels "Heroes" sort of showed the entire problem with the deconstructionist super hero movement
It isn't all bad. I loved this movie, probably the most radical Super Hero deconstruction I've ever seen.

I've fond memories of the first season of Heroes, and barely any of the seasons afterwards. Time will tell if this miniseries is going to match the first season in quality.
The show had so much promise, but sucked so bad. I have trouble thinking this will be good, but mostly because I do remember a lot of the rest of the show.

fuck it, i liked pretty much every season of heroes. i appreciated them all differently, but i still enjoyed all of them, so for me this news is awesome.

the way i look at it, there are three main concepts they could be aiming for:

1) a conclusion to season 4, then calling it there

2) a reboot

3) a series that accepts all previous seasons, and works around them. for example it could be a prequel, a story that runs parallel to the other seasons, or a new story of different characters that takes place after season 4. this option has the potential for cameos of previous seasons, but doesn't have to rely on the previous cast much.

personally, i'd be happy with any except (2)

I never watched Heroes myself, by the looks of the comments though, maybe I should at least check out the first season.

Wait, so this is going to continue from the old series? From the trailer, I was hoping for a complete reboot. The old series was great but it did write a lot of characters into corners. I'd like to see a Heroes series focusing on other individuals and keeping things a bit more logically consistent.

Huh, well, I hope they retcon the hell out of it. The writer's strike scuttled this show beyond recognition. It was sad and astoundingly appalling how they weren't able to recover properly after Season 1.

Here's hoping this finale is a good one!

It's been a while but I think I remember enough of the show than I can answer a few of those for ya!

(guess) The point of the items was to indicate a sense of "this stuff happens all the time", consider it padding out to give a sense of a lived in world AND adding a backdoor for future plot devices.

(guess) The symbol was the symbol of the first "special" person and ended up becoming the symbol for the "Illuminati-esque" people behind the scenes controlling it all.

(positive) The cockroaches were meant to symbolize evolution. Tim Kring confirmed this in an interview at some time but I don't have the link handy; Google it if you don't want to take my word for it

(stumped) I honestly have no clue how that one worked out. If I had to take a wild stab in the dark the writers thought it was a cool power that they wanted to bring back ham-fistedly.

(guess) I do somewhat recall Tim Kring saying in an interview (see above) it was just meant to be more symbolism for the people being gifted with powers. Something like "the odds of a person being born with powers were the same odds of there being a total eclipse". Then of course the crap-flinging apes who got hold of the script afterwards decided there was more to it and decided eclipse = radiation trigger for powers.

(guess) The replacement writers they got were pants-on-head retarded. Simples.
Ooh, very interesting responses.

-I wouldn't have minded if many of those items went unexplained. But the fact that the show was dealing with the past of The Company during that season, not having it explored again made me a sad panda. Even moreso when they did some close ups of several of the items. Guess I always figured "if a virus that could wipe out so many was there, imagine what else! I mean, there's a camera in that vent for a reason!"

-Funny, that's how I always saw the symbol as well! Some type of mark for the first person with powers. I figured they had a plan to show it more since, again, we were dealing with so much of it in Season 2.

-A bit disappointing, but if that's what it is, that's what it is. No biggie.

-I'm fine for repeating powers (because honestly, there is only so much you can do), but...yeah. =/

-Actually, I was fine with the Eclipse being tied to the powers (even though we've seen powers being used since BEFORE said eclipse, but whatever). HOWEVER! The first episode everyone was all, "You going to catch the eclipse? Once in a lifetime event! (Or not? Again, its been a while since I rewatched the series.)" and then the second eclipse happens and everyone's all "WTF? Didn't see that coming!" Like...really? I'm know absolutely nothing on Eclipses, but I don't think they happen QUITE so frequently. If they did, then we wouldn't have such a small cast (redshirts and otherwise) of people with powers. Again just...yeah.

-Yeah...I really liked that whole giving powers through the formula plot line. So sad to see it just...melt away into nothing.

Really, the POTENTIAL of this show urks me more than anything else, because everything started off so good...

I don't think I could possibly care less about "Heroes" as a property. It was soo poorly thought out and went completely nowhere that I barely remember anything that happened in the show. I mean seriously, the show had 4 goddamn season but can anyone actually tell me what happened in seasons 2, 3, and 4? In fact, I kind of remember bits and pieces of 2 and 4, but I have absolutely no idea what happened in season 3, it's like it doesn't even exist in my mind.

So yeah, the show started out with some potential, immediately squandered it in the first season, had an incredibly boring season finale, and just kept going downhill from there. I don't think there's any point in a revival, especially since it's not like Heroes premise or characters were particularly original. They'd be better off just making a new IP, since I really don't think the "Heroes" IP has as much of an installed fanbase as NBC thinks it does.

Back when I actually thought Hayden somethingsomething was attractive.

I stopped watching after beginning of the 3rd season. So I don't know what happened but I hope Hiro comes back.

Too often they have great ideas and in playing it safe wind up destroying or betraying the very thing they'd set out to do. This series exemplifies that. Rather than being original it stuck to a formula, and when that didn't work they threw whatever they could at it to make it stick for as long as possible. I'm not optimistic about this at all, and probably won't bother giving it a chance. Odds are too good they will have too many similarities, or be too much a self-referencing crawl through old ideas. Too many loose ends, some extraordinary bullshit "twists", and just plain contradictory misfires made the last one just too painful to watch, but I did, and I regret it because it would have been a fonder memory if I had done what they should have and quit while I was ahead in season one.

Maybe fresh ideas instead of rehashing bad ideas? Nah, that's just not how Hollywood works. Pity, that.

I was pretty disappointed in the first season finale. I personally found it lackluster.

So take that as the warning sign and get out before you get into season 2.

Honestly, I would recommend it. You can probably give the rest of the series a pass. However, if you don't mind potentially "ruining" the franchise, there's nothing wrong with trying the rest.

The first season was by far the best. I still liked the second season though, and I did think Sylar was a great villian (while he was a villian at least). I kinda wish he woulda ended up getting the time powers though and gone back and saved the Veronica Mars girl from himself...cause I liked her character.

I ended up watching the whole series over again a year or so ago on netflix. It was still quite enjoyable for me, even if the last season was cringeworthy in parts.

Some characters, I'm just tired of. The cheerleader (hayden) for instance, I hope is no longer a main part of the freaking script. She got sooooo old eventually.

I did like peter. I think the actor who played him was quite good and I have seen him in a few movies since then. I'd like to see him back. I also really liked Hiro in the first season or two. I liked future hiro as well, but now Hiro in season 4 was pretty silly stupid (kid hiro.....sigh). I'd like to see him back.

I do think the best way to continue the series is to focus on new characters with only original characters showing up briefly here or there (Except maybe Sylar heh...who I really want to be evil again).

A whole new reboot, could work, but I would rather just see them call it something else then to be honest, and go in a totally new direction. You can't redo the whole "mysteries" theme about what is going on, how they are connected etc....so a reboot would be silly.

As far as continuing the story, I think that might be hard at this point, it's gotten kinda crazy and complicated. Everyone has so much history, (and alternative history) that it could be a real pain making any of it work. Sylar .....as much as I would love to see him as the villian again) wouldn't make sense as one after the last season.

I really don't see a continuation of season 4 to be honest, that would really work and be a great story. It's not impossible, but...with so much crap writting/baggage under their belt, it would be very hard to overcome.

I do curse the writers strike as Heroes had SO much potential. I still enjoyed the seasons after the writers strike...but yeah...I have enjoyed most hero tv shows even the very bad ones. It could have been SO much better.

sylar was so much better before they showed him

when he was just "scary faceless dude in baseball cap" he was this malevolent force

zachary quinto just don't have the presence to be a good villain, sylar should have been older, maybe way older

and yeah like everyone else, I loved the first season, 2 was awful and 3 went to totally off the rails

the main problem with the show was excution it had tons of great idea's like them being on the run from the goverment but nothing cool happened in them seasons I belive one of the main charcter loosing his powers was a low point they hyped up to an epic battle but then nope nothing
