now is it from quests or are you out killing mobs when you talk about the grind?Dryaxx said:Well played wow for about 4 years, and the beta for about 2 months.. I really think the grinding in Aion is way more fun than grinding in wow. Can't really explain why, but it just feels different. (and you don't need to grind only when there's no quests around, since there are Repeatable Quests, and you get xp for lvl up your profession and gathering skill.
yea, I thought the same thing for a few years in WoW but then it got to the point of being a second job, so I'm trying to judge based on others' opinions because I don't wanna make a blind MMO purchase like I did when I wasted money on Warhammer Online, and I know Korean MMOs are notoriously grind oriented (learned the hard way from the Lineage 2 open beta). I guess that counts for something.
Ha ha, well I can't stand the Korean ones, like I said, I tried Lineage 2 and was really annoyed I had to kill SOOOO many mobs just to be able to get the noob starter quests. I couldn't play more than a day or 2 with it. And while I can appreciate taking time to reach a max level, I just don't want to devote all my spare time to a gameWillSimplyBe said:WoW's grind is nothing compared to most Korean MMOs, hell, there are some that require roughly a year's worth of play to achieve the true max level.
People who have experience with Korean MMOs probably wont be offput by the grind in Aion.
Nope, I don't believe my character from beta broke into the 20's. Then again, I wasn't really trying, I was just screwing around most of the time.Nurb said:yea, I thought the same thing for a few years in WoW but then it got to the point of being a second job, so I'm trying to judge based on others' opinions because I don't wanna make a blind MMO purchase like I did when I wasted money on Warhammer Online, and I know Korean MMOs are notoriously grind oriented (learned the hard way from the Lineage 2 open beta). Well Nurb, I was just listing one serious case(Ragnarok Online 1-99, then transcendance, and 1-99 again...and now MORE since they will soon be releasing third classes, with an even higher level cap and the boon of being able to transcend THEN go third class)Nurb said:yea, I thought the same thing for a few years in WoW but then it got to the point of being a second job, so I'm trying to judge based on others' opinions because I don't wanna make a blind MMO purchase like I did when I wasted money on Warhammer Online, and I know Korean MMOs are notoriously grind oriented (learned the hard way from the Lineage 2 open beta). I do want to try it, but have no idea when the open beta is going to be. And sadly if I cant make it into OB and I can't try it, I won't be buying it. Though if you happen to end up with a guest/buddy/referral key, I'd happily accept itWillSimplyBe said:Well Nurb, I was just listing one serious case(Ragnarok Online 1-99, then transcendance, and 1-99 again...and now MORE since they will soon be releasing third classes, with an even higher level cap and the boon of being able to transcend THEN go third class)Nurb said:yea, I thought the same thing for a few years in WoW but then it got to the point of being a second job, so I'm trying to judge based on others' opinions because I don't wanna make a blind MMO purchase like I did when I wasted money on Warhammer Online, and I know Korean MMOs are notoriously grind oriented (learned the hard way from the Lineage 2 open beta). There are korean MMOs that are getting less grindy nowadays, though. And even some that have ways of lessening the struggle of grinds. Everything from missions to Sword of the New World: Granado Espada's 3 person, auto-pilot fighting system.
Anyway, Though generally Japanese MMOs are all about the social, and Korean MMOs are all about the grinding, and American MMOs are more quest-centric, MMOs as a whole are forming a melting pot of the three aspects, creating something fresh and better.
I say, dont be daunted by the Korean MMO reputation, give the game a serious try if your interrested.
*EDIT*
Also, Nurb, your Avatar. I leik it.
asking for opinions wether or not the grind is better than WoW is not a violation of the NDAtsolless said:I'm not apart of the beta but the testers should be reminded of the NDA (Non Disclosure Act) that you can be sued over for breaching. It's highly unlikely but it's good to know the risks.
Never played WoW before, but I think its appeal is that once you do get "stuck", you're probably in the End game anyway, and there are a lot of options for you to plough through. Most MMO's I played, the endgame is just hours upon hours of PVP, to try and prove you're the best because of your 'l337z itamz'.Ultrajoe said:I'd wait for the new WoW expansion, personally, it's removing the tedious aspect of the 1-60 quests and replacing them with the utterly awesome ones from places like Northrend. Nothing says 'Welcome to the awesome' like capturing and riding a mammoth through an army to do battle with another dude on a mammoth, or ploughing through undead in a tank, and that's the merest tip of the iceberg.
I haven't really looked into Aion, it's only in the Beta so i'm forgiving it the obvious faults that is has currently, they'll be adressed before the release (hopefully...) and the game gets into full swing. People have been saying the grind is more prevalent, but less irritating. That said, some people have said that once the magic and initial novelty wears off and you get stuck into the game, you run into a wall of grind and literally identical quests more shocking than a brick to the brain.
