You can talk of the site, I believe, but if it even BEGINS to look like you're either advertising or fanboying all over it(telling everyone they should read it and it's the best thing in the world blahdyblah) then you'll get in trouble for it.
I'm not exactly 100% on that, but from what I can gather, that looks like the rule.

You can put it on your profile under 'homepage', but that's as far as you can go.

Sorry, but The Escapist looks down on advertising on their forums. That is, unless it sponsors them.

Talk to wilsonscrazybed [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/wilsonscrazybed] or nilcypher [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/nilcypher] if you need a mod. Virgil [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/Virgil] might be able to help too, as the site's IT guy.

Also, I know Eggo set up a site similar to engadget, and he linked it and asked people to give suggestions. As far as I know, the thread wasn't locked or anything. And people have linked other things they've found or done, but you might want to double check to make sure.

With good reason as well. I mean, I came to these forums because they weren't full of crap. I would love it if it stayed that way, and I believe that many other users would think the same.

Talk to Wilson or Nilcypher, whose profiles are linked (helpfully) by the above poster.

Oh, and that's exactly the sort of thing they hate on these forums. It's good that you asked first, however, as many users don't.

EDIT:

The thing about that though, is that Eggo designed the site to help people out when buying a new computer. The Escapist obviously saw the usefulness in his page as well.

Wilsonscrazybed isn't around right now, so I'd try nilcypher. They should see the message as soon as you send it to them and they refresh or go to a new page, so if they're at their computers, not very long. It's just all about timing. You could also try Tendo82 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/tendo82], another mod, if nilcypher doesn't reply.

Tendo and nilcyphers' profiles both say they're online now.

Like ellimist337 said this would be a good place to start if you've allready been through the Guidelines. Oh and next time don't post after yourself when so little time has passed it won't help most of the time.

It's interesting that this has come up, especially with the possible links to rules on advertising, especially at this time. My student union has a policy of refusing to allow advertisements in our student newspaper, which is actually run seperately, if the adverts are in competition with the union services (shops, bars, etc.). A recent motion was proposed within the union to allow the paper exemption from this rule. What do people think then of the rule with regards to the Escapist, and other media (whether on the internet or not)?

Not to seriously promote the total derailment of this thread, but it's actually a pretty serious issue in all of the media. If you see a commercial for something while watching CNN or another of the major news networks, you are unlikely to see that same network or one of its affiliates run a negative story about that product or company. This is why many think the media as a whole actually has more of a corporate bias than it does a liberal or conservative one.

It's understandable, as everything, including the media is a business and is trying to make money before all else. It's the same reason there are stories on Britney Spears and Paris Hilton but other noteworthy stories go essentially uncovered. The same is true with glamorous or spectacular stories. A great example is shown in Michael Moore's documentary "Bowling for Columbine," when the news crew in LA runs to cover what may or may not be (and turns out to not be) a shooting, but the crew had no interest in doing any kind of story about the pollution in LA; a much more serious problem to a larger number of people. These are the stories that are run and that get coverage, because these are the stories that people want and that make money. Just because it is understandable, however, doesn't make it right. Honest journalism suffers because the people aren't getting all of the news they should be.
