I've been noticing that i have a hard time being immersed in games, ill buy new games and then become bored with them after an hour or two. There are very few titles that have entranced me enough to warrant a full playthrough, like the Half-Life series, but my favorite game so far would be Resident Evil 4, this is the only game i have ever bought that i have ever beaten all the way through four times. Could you give me any suggestions on what games i might like from the survival horror genre, or any tips on how to become more immersed in games.

I have that problem sometimes, I'll play for a bit get bored and leave it. But after a few months I'll pick it back up and play the hell outta it. I think its the hype and excitement of a game your looking forward to and when you get it...meh.

Fallout 3.
It's REALLY good, The storyline is by no means freakishly short, yet I sort of suddenly found my self at the end without realising how much time had past. Man I was hungry.

Don't worry, you're just growing out of video games, everyone I know has the same thing.

I suggest you play something more complex and rewarding, like Dwarf Fortress...

Tip: imagine yourself as an observer, shadowing the character around. Understand how shitty things are for you right now, unless they're going well, at which point something should come along and blow that feeling away, preferably a hard part.

I suggest something with exploration and combat and some fair puzzles. Metroid Prime, or the Conduit, or Katamari, maybe Tetris.

I know what you mean, I've got the exact same thing going on. I'd say either buy games which are short but spectacular, meaning that you won't be easily bored with it and you'll be able to play through the entire thing, or as others have stated, play Fallout 3.
Also, try mixing up your normal gaming routine with some casual games. That might work.

That's a good option, but it may also be that you need to take a small break from gaming. It's like being burnt out right now, take a week to 2 weeks off, come back and try again. Everything should feel fresh and clean again.

Same here, I was running through the wastes today and was randomly tackled by a Yao Guai. Scared the shit outta me, it did. I also fell out of my chair when it happened, Ive got the bruises to prove it.

OT: sorry mate, Ive never had a PS2. Perhaps a final fantasy game? and if I may be so bold, Why are you only using a last gen system? You're a PC gamer too (from what I gather) but still why?

Mass Effect totally immersed me. For the two hours a day I played it I was no longer some high school kid, I was commander Shepard, I flew across the galaxy doing intergalactic quests to stop Saren. I think pretty much any game where you make your own character, is easily immerseive. Fallout 3 also nailed this. The Knights of the Old Republic games are the reason why I got a C in Algebra my Freshman year.
