A lot of Xbox's with faulty lasers returned to the game shop where I work, which is worrying for a fanboy like me :)

A few funny returns as well, like the 'broken' Nintendogs that I spent 10 minutes shouting at. 18 year old male voice is hard to convert into 10 year old girl voice :/

Anyone had to return faulty equipment of any kind over Christmas?

Well, I got this candle... but it wasn't a candle.

On the Xbox thing, don't move the 360 when there is a game in the drive.

It's really that simple. Some retailers won't take it back since this occurrence is actually listed in the manual, as is how to prevent it.

My Xbox scratched two games, and I'm currently in the process of sending them back to their respective publishers for replacement copies. I also had to send away my Xbox to get it repaired, at least I hope that's what they're going to do with it. All in all, great Christmas.

Just before Christmas, I had to RMA my Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium. Excellent card, but either Creative's drivers are crap (most likely) or the one I had was broken - initiating a recording of any type, or merely accessing the microphone port, would usually cause the sound to stop working until the computer was restarted. I'm making do with my old Sound Blaster Audigy SE, which not only possesses inferior sound quality, but performance as well. Oh, well, I suppose I'm managing, but when you're used to quality, anything less is hard to adjust to.

Yeah, it felt kinda waxy, It was hard like a candle, too. I tried lighting the end but it just melted, we couldn't find the wick.

Have lots of fun with your candle...

Actually plenty of 360's just sratch the discs because they feel like it. The quality of the lens in the 360 is utterly shite.

It's not the lens, IIRC, it's that some of the drives allow too much "play" on the disc when it's rotating so that there's a chance it'll wobble and strike the head even when the console is perfectly stable. That happened on my first Xbox, but got cleared up after changing out the power cord (!!) as it was small fluctuations in current that was making the disc wobble. I understand that later models have a foam block installed to restrict the wobble more.

My "new-to-me" Xbox doesn't have that problem at all now.

MY 360 is back in the shop... I sent it in late last year just after Fable 2 came out. You do the math. (By the way, they sent me Viva Pinata. WTF?)

For some reason I am in hysterics after reading these comments.

Not a Christmas return, but I had to return my first copy of Fallout 3 the day I bought it. The very first time I tried to play it I got a disc read error. I took it back to Gamestop and the clerk said he would exchange it but the problem was likely with my 360...even though I had played a different game right before that. Guess what? It wasn't my 360.

They sent Viva Pinata? What, as like a "sorry for the inconvenience, here's a free game" kind of thing? The cheapskates only gave me a one month Live card after my second 360 bricked.
Well, After I told them I had bought a year of live, I didn't need MORE live, so I demanded better compensations. (If it breaks again tell them you want something better, and if they say no politely tell them that you will trade in your 360 and all games, buy a PS3, and tell all your friends that Microsoft sucks.)

Have yet to return anything this year.. Of course all I got was a bicycle chain, a check for $400 to buy a new bicycle with, a target giftcard, and a best buy giftcard... so the only thing really possible to return would be the chain...

It sucks being 20. =/

People don't read manuals: it is an affront to their dignity. I cite the countless people who shouted at me about how Wiimotes didn't work, only to find out they didn't sync them.

I was happy NOT to have to return anything this christmas! Being 16 sucks, because I cant buy any of the good games or really buy anything on the internet because I'm under 18. It's like I'm stuck in the middle of "life"
Btw, you should go to the bank and exchange your 400$ check into a 300$ check. Then, at least the bank will be happy and you get to return something!
