Try Painkiller

It's an old school shooter(heavily influenced by quake IIRC) with interesting weapons(every weapon has 2 firing modes, some weapons have a third) set in massive levels against extremely detailed monsters and bosses.

Also Armed and Dangerous

Another older game, a bit unpolished but extremely fun to play with crazy weapons(Land Shark Gun [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHPvT8zVXT0]) I never really got far in to the game but the parts I played were enjoyable. the story in this game is great but you have to appreciate the humour.(find some videos of this game online)

Cryostasis, a very interesting survival horror FPS game with a cool setting(the Artic), creepy atmosphere and a couple of unpredictable twists in the story. It flew under the radar for many it definitely recommend checking it out.

Metro 2033. Fantastic game, in my opinion. Even better atmosphere than Cryostasis. Takes place mostly underground in the metro tunnels and the stations. The setting is just breathtaking, especially when you go outside. I recommend this more than Cryostasis as well, just because it gripped me more and the shooting action is more fun. I actually like the universe of the game so much, I just bought the book the game was built on.

Those are my two suggestions for now, both FPS, I know, but both are very much worth checking out and not really that expensive either.

I've heard it runs like junk on ATI systems, so buyers be warned.

I'll definitely recommend Metro, however.

Really? I'm running it on a 5800 HD series card without any problems. Maybe they've patched it or something since? Or I might just have been lucky. I hope it's the former, because I really think Cryostasis deserves some recognition, but the only patch notes I've found are for better PhysX perfomance.

Mount and Blade (I'd reccomend warband, but Fire and Sword is good too)
Buggy game, very outdated graphics for such a new game, can be frustratingly unforgiving to newbies and veterans alike. but I love it and would reccomend it to anyone.

EDIT: oh, and agreed on Metro- that is one hell of a game, its up there amongst the FPS classics as far as I am concerned.

Atom Zombie Smasher. a top down, fast paced strategy game about evacuating civilians from a zombie invasion, its simple to play and funny but offers a surprising amount of depth. it does get boring after a while, but for the price its worth it.

Shikigami no Shiro III, STG mainly known for it's HTMAX mechanic which gives automatic maximum proximity in a proximity based system for the cost of a bomb. It's also interesting cause you get bombs when you die.

The 7th Guest. OLD game, but the atmosphere made me wee my pants when I was little and still sends shivers up my spine to this day. Also, an incredible puzzle game. Worth every penny if you can find it still.

Deus Ex is a huge one.

But if you wanted a newer hidden jem? I'd suggest No More Heroes 1 & Desperate Struggle, or just wait for the remake of the first game coming to the Ps3
