Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. That was a brilliant game that was unfortunately overlooked.

Beyond Good and Evil. Again, brilliant but overlooked.

Those two games were released but not given the credit they deserved. BGAE escpecially was years ahead of its time.

I firstly recommend Cultures 2: The Gates of Asgard.
It's an RTS with elements from The Sims, which is better than it sounds, trust me.
To the best of my knowledge, I am the only person in the world who ever bought it.

I also recommend Praetorians - a proper RTS in the vein of the Total War series, which is very good.

Go to good old games, and browse around!

Seriously, the site has loads of underlooked classics.

I bought Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, and so far I'm finding it a fun little action game.

Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 is a brilliant buy too.

As is Fallout, Fallout 2, and the longest journey, (I already have it from the dreamfall special edition, that I highly reccomend you seek it, as it has soundtracks, artbook, and both Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, and The Longest Journey).

These examples are fairly mainsteam, but I'd argue that their mostly forgotten about now, (excluding fallout and Earthworm Jim).

Also, if your into point and clickers, hunt down toonstruck.

You'll need Dosbox to run it, but trust me, it is an awesome game, (it has Chrisopher Lloyd in it! :D).

EDIT: Living in the UK finally has an advantage! :D

I never really had that much of a problem myself, (I love the game, and after playing the awesome Beta for Warband, I am so buying that expansion for the multiplayer!).
Generally the pole arm isn't that great. The two handed sword however, may be slow, but when I get a hold of one, its an instant arena win! :D (just prepare to swing in advance generally, and if the opponent look like he's going to block, hold right click, till he changes his stance, then whack him one!)

The Star Wars Mod however, is RIDICULOUSLY HARD!!!

Do you want games in that same genre as "Mount And Blade"?
"Two Worlds" , "The Witcher" , "The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind", "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion", "Spellforce 2".

There is an old game, called "Mask of Eternity", it is really awesome. Maybe you should check it out.

Played both and Beyond good and evil is a very good game.
I got bored with call of cthulhu but the atmosphere of the game was truly scary.
