My friends, I have a very good used game store around where I live. I pick up great games all the time and it's cool if I want to try a game because most of them are dirt cheap.

So I found a hidden gem that I really didn't expect to be that good. I hate Resident Evil (sorry) and most third person shooters in general. The aiming gets me and I'm OCD about being able to turn and see things. But I found this PS2 game Extermination for $2.99 and I'm in love with it. It has some very interesting things like needing battery power to activate things and save.

SO, tell me about a hidden gem you found, the name, and why you liked it.

I really liked Freelancer...

But we are not really drowning in decent space-combat sims, so it should be pretty well-known.

The Void. I found it on steam. It's probably the weirdest game ever, and sort of unforgiving. I messed up in the beginning once, and I couldn't go past the next level. Not the best made game ever, but the concept kept it afloat for me. I liked it a lot, even if it hates me :(

Reminds me of Search and Destroy.

Was that the budget game by Takara or am I thinking of something else?

My hidden gem is for an old system (the Saturn) but I loved it even though 99% of the people I mention it to have never heard of it and that is S.C.U.D. The Disposable Assassin that is based on an old indie comic book. Also, not really hidden as much as ignored, I'd have to include the DS puzzle game Polarium in a list of hidden gems.

What is this game? Online MMO, PC, what? Also, if it is an online MMO, is it free?

It's a free online MMO, in closed beta, and you get all of the premium tanks and stuff, but you don't need it.

If you want to you can sign up for beta, and wait for the code to arrive in mail, when I signed up I got it really fast, not sure about right now.

Give it a shot, it's worth the bother to create an account.

Yes, I am being serious.
I know of few Gundam fans, let alone non-Gundam fans, that have played this game.
It's a mix of SOCOM and basic TPS/A games with mecha.

Fantastic, if rough around the edges, game.

I especially loved that game for both its very strong, team-based strategy element. It was also one of those games that tends to throw a wrench into your plans, forcing you to make up strategies on the fly while a group of enemy Guncannons closes in on your base to rape you and your forces stupid.

I also liked the Federation simulations. It was nice little touch to be able to play as Amuro in Gundam or that hothead Agar in the Mudrock.

The only problem I had with it was that the game practically snapped itself in two over its own knee the instant that Swaggard, Fran, and Sandra all got their own special Doms. The game more or less became a speed run.

OT: Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire.

I bought it for $15 and I've loved it ever since I popped it into my PS3. I liked the detail and special care that was taken with the modeling of the Mobile Suits. And with an abundance of MS to purchase and upgrade, you could do whatever you wanted to any one. You could even buy an Ez8 and two Gundam [G] and call yourself the 08th MS Team.

Just too bad that the best thing about the game was the Mobile Suits. Not much attnetion was paid to much else.

Sky Odyssey, a PS2 flight arcade sim title where rather then piloting a craft to shoot down enemies, you go on a variety of unique and different missions.

Flying control is spot on, each area is different from the rest, there is never any huge rush or forced moments other then to enjoy it and occasionally land or fill up (easily) the tank. It's just a wee bit odd in what it wants you to do sometimes, such as catch a hot air balloon. Either way it's a fun game that reminds me of the simply joy Pilotwings had on the SNES.
