My cousin told me this a while ago >.> I never was sure whether or not to believe him, I'm glad he was right :D

I've seen 'Escape From New York' and 'Escape From LA'. I actually liked both, just 'cause Plisken was so bad ass xD

Still one of my fav video game characters ever \o/ Woo!

Huh, for some reason I always thought the relationship was the other way around.

Seriously though, I used to subscribe to an old gaming magazine called Tips and Tricks (aimed for younger audiences), and one of the letters was about the likeness between the two. And I SWEAR the response was that Plissken was based off of MGS.
I'm only kidding. I can understand the confusion, not everyone was fortunate to grow up with movies like that and Big Trouble in Little China

Now did Kojima ask Michael Biehn if it was cool to make the picture of Snake on the cover of the original MG look exactly like him? Hehehe

Kojima may be a bit crazy, but that does say something for his character. Cool move.

The timing of this news is ironic for me. Because I spent all week playing MGS Peace Walker and I'm going to see Escape From New York at my indie theater this thursday.

I have both the Escape from movies.
Love them, the first one is the best though.

But you know, Snake was called Snake before Metal Gear Solid.
So basically, he made MG1, MG2, asked for permission while making MGS.
Why do people seem to magically "forget" Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2? <_<
Because he didn't look/sound like Plissken in MG1/2?

In MG1/2, he was modeled after Michael Biehn aka the good guy in The Terminator. And Big Boss was modeled after Sean Connery.

Hideo Kojima was always pretty uncreative and had to borrow a lot of ideas and characters. I'm not saying he's a bad game designer, just not really all that creative. Just play Snatcher. Awesome game, but a total Blade Runner ripoff / homage.

I heard about that from Gametrailer's Retrospective of the series.

Pretty interesting though.

Harry Hill's TV Burp references? On the Escapist? WIN!
And a fight would be awesome, but only if Harry Hill was there cheering on one of them XD

I've seen Escape From New York, and let's just say that Snake Plisskin may be the biggest badass in all of movies. If Solid Snake was (and he is) based off Plisskin, then yes, I would grant my blessing upon him.

However, Metal Gear is missing one big, important thing from Escape From New York. THE DUKE! The A-Number-One!

''Yeah, but can Kurt Russell use nanomachines, John? I didn't think so.''

Yeah, not after what he did in Escape from LA. ^.^

Well I pretty much knew all of that already. I always thought was pretty obvious. Except for the whole letter of approval thing. That was a bit of a surprise. At least the first Snake managed to save the president.
