High-School cops

Before I start, I'd like to explain that my highschool is not dangerous to anyone that chooses to stay out of danger. However, if you choose to be a drug-dealer, a gang banger, or other criminal, it then gets dangerous for you. The reason for this disclaimer is that we've had close to, or maybe over 20 on campus fights so far in this school year.

Out of these 20 fights, I believe that only 2 were stopped by the cops at the school. The other 18+ fights have been stopped by janitors, teachers, other students, lunch ladies, ect.

The people at my school obviously are not afraid of the cops. I witnessed one of the two fights stopped by cops, and the second the cop got in the fray the two fighters kept fighting. One of them, either intentionally or unintentionally, assaulted him. There is no fear of them.

The only possible use I could think of for having them around campus, in light of the shit job they've been doing, is to have some firearms around just in case some fucker decides to shoot the place up. However, in schools- cops are not allowed to carry guns!

So, I've come up with a few solutions that the city could do-

They could make it to where cops could proactively use non-lethal weapons like pepper spray (which they can currently only use after they are personally assaulted) to break up fights. They should also arm cops with those fashionable beating sticks riot police carry.

Or, they could arm the faculty with things like pepper spray and give them more leeway in handling fights on campus.

Or- get rid of the cops altogether, so that the fights can be handled out of the sight of the law by the peers of those fighting. I could have easily broken up one of the fights that happened at the school- but usually the students that get into fights, even to break them up, are arrested.


what do you think of these ideas? Do you think I'm complaining for nothing? Discuss.

I don't know, at my school our cop is full-time and with a salary...

And yes, he's a real cop and not just some janitor/security guy.

Thats impossible. He cannot be full time on the force and full time at school.

The force need their cops. You don't see cops also working at ice cream shops now do we?

Heh, the good thing about being in Middle School: If I get into a fight, I'll more than likely just get an out of school suspension and guidance. But, my suggestion is to bring a shank, and aim for the kidneys. Or download Norton onto their computer and wait for them to kill themselves

In middle school you don't have drug dealers fighting each other do you?

It's the only high school in my city. I live in San Marcos, Texas. We've got lots of drugs and gangsters and stuff, but the criminals usually keep to attacking other criminals, and the cops that get in between them. People like that keep their heads down are perfectly safe

And yes, he's a real cop and not just some janitor/security guy.

Thats impossible. He cannot be full time on the force and full time at school.

The force need their cops. You don't see cops also working at ice cream shops now do we?

Schools are a lot more important to protect than ice cream shops. They are state-funded mandatory attendance institutions containing 2000 (in our case) people.

Umm... So you basically want to give cops too much power, is that it?

Yeah... No thanks. I must say, my school is probably a lot less "rough" then yours, but shit still happens sometimes and we do have a cop.

But still, proactive use of anything, be it a non-lethal weapon or not, is just a bad idea. Just my opinion.

Giving the cops too much power doesn't sound like a great idea, but allowing drug dealers and gangsters to fight in the halls of my school doesn't sound like such a fuckin' peachy idea to me either.

There needs to be some control, and allowing cops to do what is necessary to stop fights before they get personally assaulted provides that control.

As a society, we need the police. If you think we don't, you're ignorant by naiveté or by choice.

I hate police abuses of power, but somebody needs to maintain something resembling order. Otherwise, there would be chaos.

So instead of fuck the police, I would say:

Fuck the police that beat down Rodney King

Fuck the police that framed Mumia Abu Jamal

Fuck the police that are too lazy to do they're job

I only recently learned about school cops in the first place. See, I live in Vancouver, Canada, and we just don't have things like that. They aren't necessary.

No. They only call in the cops when someone brings a gun, drugs, or a bomb to school. Otherwise, they wait for one kid to tire out (Usually are just slap fights, but hey, you have to take what you get, right?) and then drag them both down to the office to hand out suspensions.

I saw someone punch a cop in the face the other day at our school. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, either way not a slap fight.

Mandatory volunteer work... Does anyone else see something wrong with this phrase or is it just me?

Anyway, yeah, a few night sticks or pepper spray would solve most of fights, those things fucking hurt.
