Forgive me if I make a few mistakes I'm new to forums and this is my first post.

Okay so I was having a discussion with my friends and we came to the realization our gym teacher is one of the most stereotypical ever. He's rude, doesn't care about students or only cares about athletes. Another thing is he is also the football coach (surprise!).

So I used to play football and so did my brother before me. He wasn't a stand out and neither was I going to. I was too small and slow to play for how competitive our school's program is. I had thoughts of quitting for a while, but didn't want to upset my entire family, except my dad, who could not fathom me not playing.

After working out all winter to get bigger, stronger and faster (not like the guys in that documentary) summer starts and I started feeling weak and starting losing a lot of weight. I missed a lot of practices and I get embarrassed in front of the whole team for not "trying" or "being a team player".

I finally go to the doctor and they tell me I have mono. So after what I had experienced with the coach and how he treated me I just quit. I was never really friends with anyone on the football team as I was kind of a nerdy football player. After I quit I got to hang out with true friends and go to concerts and read all the comic books I wanted.

So after all this back story our football team doesn't even make the playoffs the year I left and the team is on downward spiral. I don't know if the coach is going to be fired, but in all honesty and not to sound harsh, I hope he does.

Sorry to vent but I really needed to get that off my chest but my question is did anyone have a gym teacher like that.

Wow that's awful. The thing I always asked my doctor was how was I able to do summer workouts with mono but I couldn't get an answer. Also the coach personally called me when I was sick to tell me to get back to football or I'll get fat.

What he said, but also don't go in the basement.

And OT: Nah, my PE Teachers are pretty nice, but the wierd thing is one of them is called Mr Williams and is ginger, and my good friend's second name is Williams and is also ginger. No relation whatsoever.... talk about coincidence.

Welcome to The Escapist! Just be careful of The Basement (drinks one shot). It's dangerous in the Basement (drinks a second shot). Especially when you're new to the place. The Basement (drinks a third shot) is bad.

Anyway, now that's over with, back on topic. I can't say I've ever had a PE teacher like that (UK here), though to be fair I was never good enough at any sports to get onto teams. Well, I tell a lie, I'm not that bad at tennis and I'm a natural sprinter, so if I'd worked hard at them and could be bothered to do them I could probably have made our athletics team in short-distance events, or maybe made the tennis team (what little 'team' there was for that...).

However, my old PE teachers were unusually hard taskmasters, even more so considering one doubled as a History teacher (who taught me in Year Seven - first year, 11 years old, for those in the USA), and the other as a Geography teacher (never taught me, thankfully...). I'm reputed to have attacked the Geography one (a short, bald, angry Welshman) with a hockey stick during Year Seven, though I honestly don't remember it (though to be fair the apparent attack was about nine years ago...). The History one used to have a habit of calling me 'Man Mountain', even though I was pretty small, weak and weedy then (I'm tall and slim now :D). Then again, he gave odd nicknames to everyone at some point anyway...

My gym teacher was actually awesome, he did the whole "COME ON LADIES LETS GO!" attitude but always with a bit of sarcasm to it. He never took himself too seriously. I guess it helped that he was also our Tennis coach all 4 years I was in high school so I got to know him for three years before I took his class... but still he was an awesome dude and looking back I couldn't think of a better mentality for a high school gym teacher. Always competitive (especially in Tennis, Jesus he CARED lol) and always fun.

I was never really sure what possessed me to try out for football. I was really fast in middle school and ran track. Problem was I really started to grow and put on just enough weight that I wasn't really all that competitive anymore. I was offered a chance to try out, and said sure why not, figured since I enjoyed being on the track team I might enjoy it. Turns out football in south Texas wasn't my idea of fun.

Yes, I did have a PE/Outdoor Ed teacher like that. I loved how full of himself he was. Everytime I saw him yell at a kid I felt like saying "You're not Rambo, you're not Bear Grylls, you are a PE teacher. Probably the least badass proffesion out there". I never hreally had to much trouble with him because I just ignored the wanker.

Welcome to the Escapist! My gym teacher was a really nice guy. There was this prject we were all supposed to do, but even though I didn't even try, he didn't fail me since he realiaed that I was a lost cause. I think he thought "What the hey, giving him a passing grade won't hurt me." A nice guy.

I had leg casts on when I was 12, 13 and again at 14 to correct my walking posture.

So I mainly had to watch people fail at sports. *Happyface

Welcome to the internet. ((well, the only part that really matters))

I found PE class as a whole to be pointless.
They spend half a million dollars on a new swimming pool, and then they only use it once a week. POINTLESS!!

The have mile long tracks, which no body uses 6/7 days. POINTLESS!!

And they complain about budget cuts, they they spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on football equipment, fresh turf, and workers to take care of it all.

Dont get me wrong, alot of gym teachers themselfs are nice guys, but they need to be out of a job.....

I so wanted to make a Futurama reference here, but I couldn't make it fit.

What's mono?
It's like an extreme version of the flu that can last three months and makes you extremely weak and tired. It's really called mononucleosis and its also known as the "kissing disease"

The kind of gym teacher that makes it so only he has fun in the class?
We've all had those.
It didn't sound like he's one of those sick sadistic ones (the kind that would've been putting puppies to sleep at the pound if he wasn't a gym teacher), he just sounds lame.
It could be worse.

My PE teacher at school was pretty awesome, which is just as well 'cause I took it for GCSE (not sure what the American equivalent would be). He was ex-army but never did the whole strict, shouty, Gunnery Sergeant Hartman style drills with us. The female PE teacher that I never actually had at all was a lesbian, although that has no defining purpose for this discussion...I just like to throw trivial bits of information into my posts.

huzzah for decent PE teachers >.>

Well i dont have to take PE anymore but for years 8-10 (currently a junior) My PE teachers were a thumbs up. My 8-9 PE teacher, was kinda like a more athletic version of my dad. For my 10th grade, we had to just switch around teachers every quarter, Every Student didn't like the granny becuase she was strict but i didnt find anything wrong with her, maybe i scored some brownie points some how and got on her good side. Then we had are Old granpa teacher who was really cool, he didnt take himself seriously, made jokes, had fun with his job and so forth. Finally we had the health teacher... he was funny, the class was easy.

My old gym teacher was actually a pretty nice guy but he was also (a terrible) football coach. When coaching said team he would constantly ridicule the soccer team ie: call them fags and such, despite the soccer team working harder and generally being better.

But he was a bit slow after a few too many head injuries, so we didn't hold much against him.
