Rounding off my Senior year, I think high school was great fun. I've met many people and developed friends, a love interest, and formed many good connections in general. I smile when I think of all the adventures that were had and people I've met. I'm only unhappy in that I think it could have been better. I started off pretty low and only gradually got here. To think if I was living it up from the beginning.

Generally no, teenagers are stupid. But it's possible.

My High School Life
Shitty but not because of the teachers and what I learned. It was made shit by all the other students (read: Cretins).

The Irony
I am now a high school teacher and the value of high school depends entirely on your outlook on life. Providing you are optimistic and open-minded, high-school can teach you a plethora of life's lessons. If you have good teachers and aren't made fun of by others (mostly) then you will have an extremely good school life.

Of course they can. It has nothing to do with their age, but their mental maturity.

Except for Freshman year, every year of high school has been one of the most painful of my life. But the last month has been one of anxiety and betrayal. It amuses me how even the most intelligent people in the school can be the most immature people I've ever met.

tl;dr-If it doesn't hurt, you're not doing it right.

There is no shortage of morons aged 18+. There are plenty of intelligent teenagers, they just need to embrace it so they can put it to good use when they're older.

High school sucked, partially due to its very nature, and partly because of my own attitude. I was a total dork. Still am, really, but now I'm a much more social dork. Back then I really just tried to "get it over with". Didn't participate in any extracurricular... well, anything. Didn't date at all, so now I am romantically stunted and chronically single (that might just change in the next week or so, though). And I didn't really try very hard academically (though I was right about that; you really don't have to do great in high school, as long as you stay out of the bottom half of your graduating class).

All told, I kind of wasted those four years. College is a lot better, though. And I like to think I'm a bit cooler now.

High school is great for me it was the best three years of my life ... although that's maybe because elementary and junior high sucked so much.

I liked High School because the people who made my life a living hell in middle school left me alone for the most part. I did become a better person because of the experience. I've developed an irreverent sense of humor.

Yes I believe that someone who is still in high school can have an intelligent conversation with someone who is out of high school, it just depends on the person.

As for how high school was for me, kind of meh. In college I don't have to be in the same room as my ex three times a day.

High school is such bullshit for me right now. I'm one of the only people in my entire class who does not:
-Smoke weed
-Get drunk on weekends
-Have sex
-Sell weed to younger kids
-Steal
-Haze people
-Get in fights

I'm part of the social outcast group, but hey, the girls that are in the group too are the only decent girls in the damn school.
Basically this.
Also, my conversation points seem to be ignored by anyone older than me. They are also ignored by people my age and younger than me.

Do I think kids your age can contribute to intelligent conversation? Absolutely. Am I inclined to believe that you are capable of offering sage advice based on your wealth of life experiences? Yeah... not so much.

There are just certain topics where being taken seriously all but mandates some 'additional mileage', as it were - your relative intelligence really has nothing to do with whether adults are going to take you seriously when you broach those topics.

So, being the young man that I am, I'm beginning to realize that I am generally not taken seriously because of my age. Fellow Escapists do you believe that those younger than 18 can contribute to intelligent conversation, and have truly good, solid opinions?

On a related note, how was or is High School for you?, awful waste of time or did you have the good fortune to be one the the fabled, yet overrated "popular" and are you as disappointed as I am that the first several pages of Images are of High School Musical when you search "High School" in google?
As for your first point I don't think anyone can contribute to an intelligent conversation, regardless of age.
One of the best conversationalists I know is 17 now but he's been been that way since he was 13. And the only other people I can have a decent chat with are teachers in their 40's through 70's, and I'll bet they were intelligent and eloquent while they were teenagers too.

As for your second point, I just got out of high school and it was the worst thing I could ever imagine. Popularity has nothing to do with it (At least not for me) Could you imagine being in an Honers U.S. History class where half of the students thought that Joseph Stalin was the American general in charge of the war in the Pacific? Just being exposed to the unchecked stupidity and laziness of the people that are supposed to be in my "peer group" is enough to make me want to crawl in a hole somewhere and die.

For your third point, why are you Google searching "High School" anyway?

Heh, my history teacher is actually asking me if he's correct with some WWII stuff (mostly just what weapons were used, what planes, what battles, operation names, secondary objectives to those operations) but it still shows that he puts a lot of belief into what I say. Gotta tell you, it feels great. In fact, I'm working on a powerpoint right now because he wants me to teach the first half of the class (45 mins, we have hour and a half long classes) about the Battle of Stalingrad and all the tactics used. I'm 17 by the way.

Of course they can. I was contributing to intellectual conversations with adults when I was 13/14, and I'm not alone in that. The only thing that prevents it is pretentious pricks too arrogant to see your intelligence because of your youth, and that's their problem more than yours.

My life in high school sucked, but It made me who I am today, so I can't regret it.

I'd say those above 15 can contribute. Anything lower than that doesn't really give the person time to experience life.

As for high school, I can't say I entirely enjoyed it, but I didn't mind it either. I had friends, played sports, did well, and got into college because of it. The way I see it, high school is 4 years of your life. Do well in classes, ignore the drama, and get on with your life. I know it sucks to get bullied and such, but the only true revenge you can get on them is by simply moving on and becoming more successful because of it. I saw way too many people ruining their lives by completely ignoring classes and instead engaging in the bull that won't matter after the rest of their class graduates.

I think that if they care enough to contribute to a conversation, given a chance, some can add intelligent input. Others a stupid and don't care and it's those who create such a horrible reputation.

Also yes I think someone under 18 can have a good opinion on things.

Secondary School(what is is called here in the UK) has been fine for me. I haven't been popular but I'm well liked by those who know me and I have had a great group of friends since the first month of Secondary School.

I like this quote:

"Hey, remember how you were 10 years ago? Were you smart? No! You were fucking stupid! And ten years from now you'll look back to today and say the same thing!"

and I'm currently in high school, it's okay.

Seems that in England secondary school is either you are popular or you just get along with most people never understood the jock thing that americans have a problem with.
