You can have intelligent conversations with people of any age. Remember, there is also idiotic people above the age of 18.

And, in high school. Hate it. Want it over.

Also, I do patronised for being a 15 year old, but I do shut them up by out wording them them or applying high amounts of logic.

Fellow Escapists do you believe that those younger than 18 can contribute to intelligent conversation, and have truly good, solid opinions?
Well, yeah. Although you will probably end up hating all the "good, solid opinions" you held when you were younger.

As for High School, it was boring. I was never bullied, but I didn't really have any friends either. Overall a very dull experience.

On a related note, how was or is High School for you?, awful waste of time or did you have the good fortune to be one the the fabled, yet overrated "popular" and are you as disappointed as I am that the first several pages of Images are of High School Musical when you search "High School" in google?
As for your first point I don't think anyone can contribute to an intelligent conversation, regardless of age.
One of the best conversationalists I know is 17 now but he's been been that way since he was 13. And the only other people I can have a decent chat with are teachers in their 40's through 70's, and I'll bet they were intelligent and eloquent while they were teenagers too.

As for your second point, I just got out of high school and it was the worst thing I could ever imagine. Popularity has nothing to do with it (At least not for me) Could you imagine being in an Honers U.S. History class where half of the students thought that Joseph Stalin was the American general in charge of the war in the Pacific? Just being exposed to the unchecked stupidity and laziness of the people that are supposed to be in my "peer group" is enough to make me want to crawl in a hole somewhere and die.

For your third point, why are you Google searching "High School" anyway?
thought I could doll up the page quite a bit by putting a nice and dry humored high school related picture, unfortunately I found none...

Well I could when I was your age, but I read books, don't know about you.

I was among the coolest of the cool in middle school (It's when you're 13-16 in my country), but in high school I just didn't care, walk in, walk out, go meet my other friends.
Yes, I do read my fill, and though that's gotten me names such as "human dictionary" and "nerd"
(it's amazing how we humans have made the ostracizing those whose intelligence and socially aware not only expected but easy) just keep on going, thats what i've figured
Listen, I got called book boy for like.. 3 years? Because I was caught reading "The Redemption of Althalus", a book my English teacher lent me (BUY THIS BOOK, IT IS AMAZING) I take pride in the fact that my vocabulary extends beyond this though:

LOL U S RYT BBZ I WSH I WS HT LIK U XXXX <3 LUV MAH BABAH 2 BTS LOLOLOL

=-="

Translation: Lol, you so right babes..? :S I wish I was hot like you xxxx *heart* love my baby to bits lol..

Yes, that is an actual facebook comment posted by one of the chavs in my class :S
Yes, the increase in text-speak is ruining the world faster then nuclear fallout could, and the practice of showing uneeded affection over facebook is overated, if you the the person so much Im sure that contacting them through telephone, email, or better yet talking to your "babes" in person, you make an excellent point

Of course they can. I was contributing to intellectual conversations with adults when I was 13/14, and I'm not alone in that. The only thing that prevents it is pretentious pricks too arrogant to see your intelligence because of your youth, and that's their problem more than yours.

My life in high school sucked, but It made me who I am today, so I can't regret it.
As my Dad always says, when you go to the 20 year reunion and there still huffing glue in the boys room and you have F-you money, who'll be laughing?

They can be capable of intelligent conversation, but I do find that they are easy to spot out due to their inexperience, especially on forums like this.

High School was great for me thanks.

I'm in a spot where I can say "fuck society" (you have to, it's a football school) and still have plenty of friends, as well as being on good terms with most of the school. And you don't even have to be emo!

'Cept the jocks. There seems to be one universal prick rule for them.

As for having respectable opinions, most people will tell you that they will respect you as long as you have some decent opinions to be shared. I realized with my first couple of threads that this isn't entirely true. I received much less condescension when I didn't post my age.

When I was in school I got so sick of 'old' people telling me I didn't know shit.

Now I am one of those 'old' people I will just say this - stick to your guns about what you think you know. Never back down - but realize you just flat out don't have life experiences that will over time change your view on things.

So I guess in short - don't be afraid to stand up for what you know - just realize you might be wrong. Oh and when you get to college - most professors are idiots. They have lived life inside a school for the most part. Listen to them on the subject matter - just realize their life experience ends once they get off campus.

Honestly, I will take older teens(16 up) seriously, but only if what they say is smart.

And high school was hell for me. Only guys, most of them either snobby rich kids or sports jocks. It sucked. Being the socially awkward, aspergers syndrome, slightly smarter than usual but also ADD ridden, wussy, non-violent nerd kind of kid........I was bullied non-stop. Even by people younger than me.

And of course, my main tormentor was the NEPHEW of the VP of discipline. Meaning that no matter how many detentions he got (for bullying and being a general dick), he would never be expelled. I may have escaped being beaten up, but I did get kicked, tackled into walls/the floor, soccer balls kicked at my face, and dragged across the gym locker room floors in my underwear. >_<

It took me 5 years of awesome college and finding the most awesome girlfriend ever (also my first) to reach the levels of self-esteem that most people enjoy naturally. But I still seethe at the memories of that high school. And I'm sure I've repressed most of the worst memories.

If you live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada...DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS TO LOYOLA HIGH SCHOOL. Unless they're good at sports. Then they'll do OK. If your kid is sensitive or not physically strong, the school's no bullying allowed policy is (or at least WAS while I was there) USELESS.

I suupose as long they act mature properly I may overlook his/ her age.
As for my High school life the teachers were fine and they taught me well. The whole social life in high school however was annoying as hell like many other people experiences.

Well we have got Secondary School and yes it goes to 18 but you have the choice to leave at 16 after you finish GCSEs well thats going away for the younger years and will change to 18. But i view it as a bit different than High School socially in my view they are totally different. But thats just my opinion :). Forgot to mention i am also a bit socially awkward, i wish i had the confidence of my mate although only a tad, I have gotten better but the only reason that is. Is because i have common ground with almost everyone (Games) hell at my school lots of the girls even the fit ones are avid gamers.

It's all about the quarter century club. You will probably get taken more seriously by then.

High School was great. I miss it sometimes. Sure I was popular. But for me, school wasn't like the movies or t.v. shows.
Must have been so easy being popular, everyone fawning around you. I'm not bashing on you, I just had a lot misfortune in public school.

I have a story to accompany this post, after multiple years in the public system I decided that after some research I was tired of the public controversy and bullshit in public school and decided to home school. I remember my grades sky rocketed and I started getting sick a lot less, it was a basic improvement in my life. Looking back at those years, it was all just one bullshit social club for who is and isn't popular. I wanted to actually learn something in school, not be in that weeks fad.

High school was fine, after a yelled at a few people for starting inappropriate rumours and insisted that I was not going to be walked over... After which, I was accepted by anyone, anywhere, so that was good.

Re the under-18s.... Weeeellll, having been one, I can say that they can hold interesting conversation and their opinions are as valid as anyone else you'd care to name, HOWEVER their life tends to revolve around the shallow side. Especially girls. Who said what to whom and when and how and why and who's talking/not talking to which one etc etc. Followed closely by school news, and maybe part-time job news. Those kids that DO take an active interest in the world around them, including the economy and politics rather than just hitting the clubs are taken much more seriously by me.

But then, it's childhood. You're supposed to be innocent of the effort of everyday life, so if they can stay cocooned in their little bubble, good for them.

Depends on the kid, but some can be pretty damn smart. I didn't mind highschool that much, there were a few sighs here and there, but overall it wasn't too bad.
