Fairy Tail:
As shonen as shonen could get. After the first episode I had high hopes that the show would do something really interesting and unique with its bright, colorful setting and magic. Ended up extremely dissapointed after a few episodes that didn't seem to utilize the setting much at all.
Sword Art Online:
Reasons stated millions of times before. Never turned back after I discovered Log Horizon, which does everything I wanted SAO to do but trades off some suspense and action (which I don't see as a big negative).
Naruto/Bleach/DBZ/Inuyasha:
Just lost interest. Too many episodes of the same old story.

two words: status quo. male character A has feelings towards female character B. At some point they have a tender moment where they confess their love for one another, but remind themselves, that they still have to defeat the Big Bad, so they don't advance their relationship but wait.
Very next episode character A is hitting on every young maiden he sees in the next village, forgetting all about the heart to heart talk they had. And this happens at least three or four times in the show. And I watched every episode. I still don't understand how I did it...
I can sorta feel your pain. The Swedish dub-version I grew up watching was miles better. My gf showed the english dubbed version, and boy, are they horrible.
The funny part is that I can confirm that the story works, as I adore both the Manga and Sailor Moon Crystal... It's too bad that falling behind has caused me to drop Crystal because I can't handle binging that series. There's not enough salt in my body to compensate for how often it brings tears to my eyes.Jute88 said:

I'm pretty sure the entire first season did, though this iirc was around the same time that Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, GI Joe and a lot of other kids programing was doing the exact same thing. Basically in the 80's and 90's TV had such a bad reputation for mind poisoning in the US that you could only air stuff with a moral of the day message at the end.Jute88 said:

Edit 2: This pretty much stopped in the early 90's, but some shows held on to it until the end of the decade. Trying to have some sort of "educational" tag was really hot button stuff for children's television.
Not sure if this counts. I dropped Ouran High School Host Club. I enjoyed the manga and decided to check out the anime on Netflix. Unfortunately, the subtitles synced very poorly with the dialogue, basically displaying a message well after a character had already finished saying it. That seriously messed with the comedic timing of the show and confused me a lot, so I had to give it a pass.

Same choice of anime for me, but I'm more harsh about it. I gave it like 20 episodes and was just bored. Interested in the beginning but it just progressed so damn slowly that I ceased caring. An episode would introduce some new character, have some barely related plot going on with them, and then they'd leave in the end and no real progress with the overarching plot has been made. I can forgive that sort of thing if it was mildly interesting or fun to watch anyway, but this didn't even have that. I don't understand the praise for this show.Casual Shinji said:

I didn't make it very far, I thought a shop locking everyone inside - victims and perpetrator - was pretty stupid and logically, you'd think such a system wouldn't be in place (anymore) given what happened in the previous season. Made by delusional people for delusional people. Relationships are a mess and the most horrid sort of status quo imaginable. Moral of the story is that don't try to heal psychological damage from yourself or others, embrace your insanity and go run through the subway screaming magic while wearing something you ordered from leather fetish shop online. Near the end of the series I just had to drop it, as I might have otherwise put my fist through my computer screen. Well, I say drop, but I actually fast forwarded the last episodes and skipped a lot just to see if it actually gave satisfactory ending as opposed to the gut wrenching offense to rationality I was fearing it would turn out to be. My fear was correct.

Interesting premise. Dumb execution. If they'd have gone for more realistic approach it might have been good, but the fights for example were so divorced from reality they might as well had had magic to go along with them. Also anvilicious as all hell.

Don't know if this one's highly acclaimed or not but my friends spoke highly of it, so here it goes.
Dropped it on my third episode. I really can't stand a world where the common folks living in it seem completely and totally retarded.
First a lawyer somehow manages to convince a jury that a (13, 14? can't quite remember) kid blew up an entire classroom without explosives, while being in the middle of ground zero, with zero motive, zero knowledge of bomb making and absolute and complete confusion stampered across his face (in reality some flying uberdude called Wretched Egg - I shit you not).
Then he gets sent to a prison without parole that doubles as an amusement park. The prisoners are used in death games and controlled through a collar that poisons them daily, and needs "candy" (literal wrapped candy with an antitoxin or some shit) to survive. Could be an exploration of a dark, dystopian society? Nope, no one on the outside knows this is happening, and they think the death games are ALL STAGED. Really??? You think prisoners would run around pretending to be stabbed by a giant spike (just one example) for the amusement of a bunch of school boys/girls?
He also discovers he has blood powers that allow him to create weapons out of his blood and that's why he was framed to go to the jail, because there's some ancient bloodfighting tradition or whatever, didn't get too far.
Honestly, all this grinded my gears, but I could support it. I've seen more retarded things in animes.
BUT THEN COMES SHIRO. THAT STUPID LITTLE SHIT.
Shiro is a flying naked (somewhat) girl that just perfectly exemplifies everything wrong with the Genki Girl bullshit anime writers like to rub on the audience's face. Nothing she does has any foot in reality, no one reacts strongly to her behavior or presence, and her voice is so ear-rupturing annoying I'd rather hear a stereotypical drama protagonist ***** and moan about how bad their sheltered, confortable lives are than watching another second of Shiro. It was the final nail in the coffin of an anime that I can't recommend to anyone I give even the slightest hint of a shit about.

I don't have a great record with long running anime series despite some people actively trying to get me into it so most of them
Notable ones:
Elfin lied: There might be a decent plot underneath the soft core porn and it's gore fetish but I'm not going to wade through all that to get to it. It dose have an awesome opening theme song though.
FMA and FMA: brotherhood. I have a friend who kept trying to get me to watch it but I've already read it. FMA annoyed me because it went off in a random direction while FMA: brotherhood has the opposite problem because it's treading old ground. Book to movie I'll watch but with manga to anime it just doesn't add enough. Most of the time I prefer the manga if only because the stock style characters and the way the dialogue is written in a lot of them is less annoying when you don't hear their voice.
InuYasha: The only reason I was watching it to start with was because the monsters and folklore was interesting. The main cast certainly isn't and I barely remember what the core plot was. It too long and overstayed it's welcome.
Naruto: Some of the side characters are alright but I hate the main cast. It and Bleach are not really my thing in the first place.
Witch Hunter Robin: Terrible dubbing.
Ergo Proxy: I did actually watch all the way through but ONLY because it was short and watched half of it waiting for it to get better so I figured I might as well finish it. It feels like it trying way to hard to be philosophical and it doesn't really work. For such a short a series it wastes a lot of time on random shit and feels like it's jumping around and missing bits.
I keep forgetting to watch Ghost in the Shell and Attack on Titan because those are two that I considered watching without being nagged to.
