A story narrated by jack the ripper, his point of view on his actions and state of mind.
Another idea, a day in the life of Hitler (with a lighthearted theme)
Oh another good story would be a retelling of the tale of King alfred burning the cakes (and escaping the vikings).

Something easily researched, so you can find a good historical background and templates for characters. So go for something in pretty recent history, I'd say post 1900. Maybe the setting could be a large city in the UK in 1914 or 1915, so you could incopoerate loads of stuff about the build up to war, the rush for conscription, propaganda, the White Feather movement, the pressure on young men to enlist etc. Plenty of themes to use, characters could be derived from the differant attitudes to war at the time etc. I could rattle that shit out in a few days.

I dont know though, thats what came to mind, I've had a few pints but it seems like a pretty easy subject to write fiction about.

I would say the October evolution through the eyes of a child.

We all know what communism kind of stand for, but seeing it through say a fourth grader or equivalent who doesn't really know much about politics would be an interesting read.

or the same, but through the eyes of a Hitler Youth in 1939-45 Germany.........
Loving the idea of something based in the October Revolution. Mainly because that era of history fascinates me, but again, there's been so much written on it that devising a story shouldnt be too hard...

Hmmmm. Is this limited to any particular country or region of the globe or is it a free for all?

How about Bloody Sunday in Russia? As one of the soldiers gunning down innocent protesters or a protester watching friends and family die.

I think that the best idea has already been taken

but to be serious, there was a plan in WWII (Operation Downfall) to completely wipe out Japan if they did not surrender. This entitled the complete genocide of Japanese citizens as well as the use of tactical nuclear strikes before sending in troops 24 hours later (they did not know much about the effects of fallout) which would have caused many casualties for both sides, but it gets worse when you realize that the surviving soldiers (still affected by radiation) would return home to participate in the baby boom, which would have caused mutations.

this would be perfect for fiction, if not a bit dark, to perhaps discuss how the civil rights movement could have been more about those born with genetic defects rather than race, since the disabled and disfigured would then make up a large percent of the population.

Without giving a specific time period, I would try to write about a major historical event from the perspective of an average citizen. The battle of Cannae from a Roman soldier, Anne Boleyn's execution from a spectator the Kennedy assassination from a person in the crowd, just pick the time period you enjoy and go with it.

The vietnam war.

Or General William Tecumsah Sherman's march through the South during the Civil War.

More world wide... maybe some one who is accsused during the Spanish Inquisition and their final thoughts as they are judged.

Hmm what if Batman was like the Phantom. He has been in the background of all the big stories of the world of history?

For a good tearjerker: A black boy in Africa hunting game with the men of his village when he's captured and put into a boat to be taken to Colonial America.

ProTip: Post completed story on forums when you get it back, we'd love to read it!

A child's views on the Trail of Tears would be interesting. If not, well, write on something you know about. Detail is always good.

If you are looking for inspiration, watch the movie "La vita è bella". It's the tale of a man and his son taken to the concentration camps.
