Okay so I have to do quite a large-ish project for history and I was wondering does anyone have any interesting topics?
It should a pretty small timeline, like a few days or weeks, it's not that long lol.
And it has to within, the last two centuries I think.
So anything good?
Edit: it's also helpful if it isn't too well known but still has quite a bit of information available for it.
Edit 2: I have
also been advised to do
something a lot of people arn't going to
do. My friend for example is doing the rape of nan king.

The Cuban Missile Crisis was a major event, and might be a good subject for the project.

The USSR after taking Berlin goes to Japan-occupied China, to fulfill their Ally duty and help the US. in 1945.
Never heard of it? Neither has anyone in your class.

Surprise them.

Maybe looking at an individual battle from within one of the world war? Although they're common knowledge among Australian's, I doubt a huge number of Americans (Stab in the dark >.>) would know about either the Gallipoli Campaign in WW1 (Essentially a screw up that we damn well stuck with for years, until one of the most "successful" military retreats ever), or for a more bad-ass time, the battles along the Kokoda Trail in WW2 have some insane stories within them.

Bay of pigs, the actual invasion the set up took much longer but a couple days qualifies.

Ummm the Brown vs. board decision i think when the supreme court got ahold of it it didn't take long.

Reagan flexing his muscle

Umm yeah just American stuff for me, but i'm sure every country has a military operations page like that on wiki if you wanna look around for a short "incursion".

You could do the Austro Prussian war or known as the seven weeks war. A pretty intense period where Prussia broke away from Austrian influence in the mid 1800s. It has some pretty important people like Bismark and Franz Joseph. Worth a look.

Also the whole war was only 7 weeks long!

You could do something on the Six Day War. Its pretty interesting, long enough ago that it can be considered history, yet it is still very relevant today. It could be a rather broad topic though, so you could just try and focus on a smaller aspect, with in the war.

Ah, just say that you are fellow Irish man! Forget the Six Day War, do something from our own rich History.

What about the killing of the 1916 Rebels by the British? Had huge ramifications for the whole Nation and, in part, led the the War of Independence. It also led to the rise of Sinn Féin and led to the Rebel leaders becoming household names. There are several reason why I think it would suit you. People may do the 1916 rising, but I don't think many will just focus on the execution of the Rebels. It's your own history! There is a wealth of info that you will have easy access to. Finally, one of the reasons that the executions are important is that they did happen over a few days. Before the executions, Irish public opinion was against the Rebels, but the longer the executions were drawn out the more opinion went towards the rebels and thus War of Independence, ect.

Read from "Aftermath" on, on this page.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Rising

On the same not they probably never learned of the 100th Infantry Battalion 442nd Infantry Regiment( also called the "Purple Heart Battalion"), made up of all Japanese American soldiers, and they were probably the most decorated soldiers of the war(they had 21 Medal of Honor recipients in it).

Or the Japanese invasion of Alaska and the battle to push them out, hell I don't think most people know that even happened.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleutian_Islands_Campaign

I think both would be rather interesting to have a project on.

You could also do the Battle of Belleau Wood, The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (the anniversary was last week) The Manhattan Project, the Wright Brothers, Commodore Perry and the Black Ships (How they opened up trade with Japan) The Battle Chosin Reservoir, The Space Race between USSR and USA, the first Moon Landing.

To keep the list short, maybe you should put down what type of thing in History you would be interested in? Such as a battle, an invention, a leader. It might be just the past 200 years, but a lot has happened in that time, it's one of the biggest jumps in technology in the history of mankind.

Not probably, they WERE the most decorated unit in WW2. But that all happened in a period longer than a couple weeks.

After, since the long march was during the war and the Kuomintang (or nationalists) were pretty much occupied with the fighting Japanese.

I'm a big fan or Russian History so why not write about the 1905 revolution, the 1904 Russo-Japanese war (which went horribly and hilariously bad for the Russians with the Battle of Tsushima) or the assassination of Tsar Alexander II by terrorists.

Options are fairly endless and feel free to pm me to bounce ideas or if you want clarifications. It's one of the few advantages I have as a historian. Keep in mind my area of specialization has been Russia and the Far East so can't help too much outside of that.

True it is a bit long, hell he could just it it on saving the lost battalion in Biffontaine, the assault of Monte Cassino, or the fighting in northern Italy. These guys should have a "Band of Brothers" type HBO mini series made about them.

Also I didn't know if they had a marine regiment that had more medals(hell with as many intense battle in the pacific it was probably close).

Prohibition and its impacts of the societal functions of an early 20th century America is going over quite well for me, although I am mainly focusing on the influx of drugs into the country and how they would go the shape the U.S.A in its future and its international outlook.
