Oh noooooo, videos games just so happened to have slightly similar points in their games that maybe look a tiny bit like another during gameplay. They're all the same, how could I let Big Game Industry fool me like this?! I've been paying for the same game I ever bought this whole time, all 2 decades I've bought and played video games! All that money, waaaaaaaaasted!

I think you need to stop whinging about the same 6 games and maybe actually play some new ones for once so you can whinge about them instead.

I just don't really see this being as big of a deal as the people who have been carrying that HL torch all these years seem to think it will be.

HL has been dead up until this point, so we should be grateful anyone is getting anything Half Life at all. And if HL3 does come out, I am sure it will not be the masterpiece everyone expects it to be. It's probably gonna be ok like the others, then it's gonna have a hype overload explosion, and then it's gonna pull a Duke Nukem Forever and fall over and disappear with the rest of the releases. I bet the only thing that will persist are the memes that HL3 was truly confirmed for realzies this time

Doom 2016 released after development hell. turn out to be one of the most praised game.

Duke forever suck because gearbox rushed and thier games suck too like alien colonial marines.

HL3 develop by valve release today would be best thing ever. but they decide not to.

Duke Nukem Forever was many things. Most of them awful. Rushed however, it was not.

I bet they'll release a non-VR version [of Half Life Alyx] after a while. There's too much money in a Half-Life title not to.

They did release versions of Half Life 2 that didn't run on steam, there are console versions of the game.

Is this like that PlayStation meme where some eejit thought that dishonestly presenting inclusion of foliage and trees must prove all the games are the same, ignoring the simple fact that foliage and trees are quite prevailent not only in reality, but almost all media portraying outdoor areas that aren't entirely desert, ocean or space, and that nature is often aesthetically pleasing to explore? Is that what this is? Except they are between the same series, so it makes it somehow even more meaningless?

I wouldn't call 15 years of development rushed in any sort of way. So with your logic, I'd say they rushed Doom 2016 in comparison. So I don't think age has anything to do with it.

Expansions or otherwise, I dispute the idea that Half-Life is tied to Gordon.

Yes, there's arguably in-universe precedent for it, what with being there when the world needs him and all that, but it's called "Half-Life," not "Freeman." And again, he isn't even really a character.

Hypothetical - if Half-Life 3 was announced today, with it being established that we weren't playing as Gordon, would that be an issue? Because I'd submit that it isn't.

It's not like they spent all those 15 years working on the final product we got. They switched engines a bunch and probably threw out heaps of art assets due to them becoming dated as time went by. The actual meaningful development time is likely a lot less and it isn't unreasonable to assume that it might have been rushed out at the end.

So what? It all falls under development of the same game, and so counts as the one development period. You can assume the final build was rushed if you like. Doesn't mean you've got any legs to actually claim that it was.

Valve has become lazy and complacent. They should be despised, but they're instead revered.
