I saw a documentary about Edward Bernays once (The Century of the Self), I haven't ready any books about him, but I'm sure there are some, and if there are, I bet he'd be a fascinating person to write about.
Bernays was Sigmund Freud's nephew, and he was the person responsible for integrating Freud's theories into advertising. That is to say that Bernays is responsible for the psychological manipulations that are now the most basic element of advertising, whether it's for a product, a political character, a religion/philosophy, or just about anything else. Understanding him and what he did is really enlightening to the extent that it explains a lot about our modern culture by looking at a man who was probably one of the most influential people to ever life, despite the fact that most of use have never heard his name. If you can find a biography on him, then you'll be able to write a report over a man who did an incredible amount to create the world we live in today, but at the same time, you'll be writing over something that few people write over, so you'll probably get some points for having an original topic.
