What video game's story do you think would make the best, or most realistic real-life history event? Obviously games with highly realistic storylines like Call of Duty 4 [or Half-Life?] would make a lot of sense if actually documented if it really occured, but what of more cartoonish or unrealistic games?
Think a "what-if" if there was a 4-year civil war between the BLU construction company and RED demolition in United States (Team Fortress 2), or if there happened to be regular epic battles on recently discovered planet Popstar (Kirby).

Hrm... I'd like to see something A'la Final Fantasy occur, with a time paradox and what not. THen the world would stop existing altogether! ^^

That, or Pokemon. The original pokemon, where pokemon were alien beasts that somehow adapted to the earth's ecosystem. I particularly liked the fact that there were still actual animals 'n such in the games. Nothing to cataclysmic.

If you ask me MGS4's story is actually possible eventually, with certain specifics removed.

Germany declared war on me, the English, in 1939, but it was rather foolish, as I had the bastards surrounded, so quickly subjugated them, then proceeded to wipe out the Japanese, ending them with a nuclear blast around 1945. This was in Civilization Revolutions though, so I think it was more coincidence than anything else.

I could imagine a plumber eating a mushroom and really believing he needs to go save a princess.

Also, part of the appeal to me of games like Europa Universalis and the Total War series is to enact certain "what-if" scenarios. That's the beauty of those games.

Oh I think you would have to take out a whole mess of that game to make it believable.

That game is just so unreal on so many levels.

How about any of the Command and Conquer games. A rouge person setting up a group out to take over the world.

But the pluralization of PMCs replacing state-run militaries, as well as the proliferation of nanomachines and weapon ID locking would be possible.

I don't really think it's fun to base video games on history anymore; you always know what's going to happen in the plot.

Fallout 3 could be argued for this point...Sure all the pre-war tech was a bit much, but it's something that could definitely happen

Assassin's Creed would be neat.
Mass Effect would be cool if that happens in the future.
Seconded.

Alternatively, the dystopian/antagonistic alien angle would be pretty sweet in Half-Life. I wouldn't wait to take up arms and rebel against the Combine.
