I'm going to have to agree with everyone and say towel, if nothing else.

I'd make sure I have a pair of sturdy (work)pants, good shoes (army boots would be best) and some hygiene stuff like a comb, razorblade and a toothbrush. Might also bring a knife to use as a tool and a weapon just in case. This would be with the plan of hitchhiking across America or train jumping.
