Hitman Monthly Episode Release Dates "Subject to Change"

Hitman developer IO Interactive has admitted that they may not hit the monthly release schedule for their planned episodes.

In a post on Twitter, IO has stated that while they are "aiming for a monthly release" schedule, that planning is subject to change. This first came to light when the first Elusive Target release was delayed from its planned date of March 22. A tweet from the official account over the weekend throws the dates of future releases into doubt as well.

Honestly, this shouldn't be a huge surprise. Unless the content is already feature complete and ready to ship, delays will happen. Be that as it may, that doesn't make the folks who have bought in to Hitman's episodic plan any happier.

It's something anyone considering the Season Pass should keep in mind. If you're not willing to pay up front for content that might be delayed, you should probably consider waiting for the full release of the game, currently scheduled for January 2017, although that date could obviously be affected by any other delays to content.

One day there will be a company that releases episodic games episodically on a set schedule, on that day the end of times will be upon us.

Telltale have more or less managed it for years.

Squenix obviously hired someone from Valve to do this. Or maybe they hired the entire Half Life 3 development team...

So no hint as to how many of these slices they are planning on selling seperately before we get the complete game then? Alrighty, nope...Squeenix, not interested in your "episodic" bullshit. I'll wait as long as is necessary. Am in no rush to lose more money for dubious promises.

They routinely have delays.

Sounds like the pr department's big mouth wrote a check they couldn't cash.

I have to be honest, I'm more willing to tolerate some delays when the alternative is the ubisoft solution: same game twice a year with a different coat of paint each time.

I just wish I couldn't hear squeenix rubbing their hands together and cackling like scrooge mcduck every time they talk about episodic gaming.

To be fair, that's more down to Telltale only announcing release dates roughly half a week before said dates, so that let's them be really accurate with the damn things.

This is not something a company wants to happen when they're trying to hype the FF7 remake, which is supposed to drive interest in FF15. People are already made at these games for being episodic and now it seems the releases will be as regular as new Steven Universe episodes

Actually it's EXACTLY what they want to do. Life is Strange had no set schedule of release either, but the game was a hit, so now SE wants to capitalize on all that sweet season pass money, so ya know, they'll have money for the game before it's even finished. People get such huge fan-boners over FFVII that everyone is going to just buy the season pass, and then regardless of how long they have to wait between episodes, Square Enix can dub the process 'successful' and feel vindicated in doing this with more of their popular titles in the future.

Welp, as long as they keep the quality and dont take two years to deliver the content of a year then fine, the Paris level was great.

Fuck Hitman, Eidos, and SquareEnix. How about release the damn game whole? I was so excited when they announced it and even promised to fix the mistakes of Absolution...then they made a bunch of worse mistakes. Just like the last Hitman movie. The trailer opened so well that I thought it would actually be a true Hitman movie. Ofcourse the rest of the trailer just shows a guy in a Agent 47 cosplay doing an action movie. If explosions and shoot outs on a highway is in your Hitman, you are doing it wrong. I'm not buying this. I'm tired of people condoning shitty business practices. Microtransactions, cut up games, and season passes for -everything- is not ok.

If it were a smaller company I might actually be worried. I mean, once these guys have everyone's money in their pockets, it's not like they can bail out and blow it all on Cuban cigars or something. I guess one could somehow argue against the principle of the thing, but I'm indifferent.

This will hurt them more than anyone else. People will forget about it and move on. Aside from the naive ones who pre-ordered.

I wouldn't call it successful after the initial launch date Hitman was being out sold on Steam for the next two weeks by a two years in development indi game called Factorio, that game is now outselling The Division on Steam and Hitman... well it's disappear from the charts.

Hence the quotes around successful. Hitman is getting outsold by an Indie game, sure (other AAA titles have had this happen to them as well), but when FFVII's first episode hits digital stores, I guarantee you those season pass figures will help them to feel justified in continuing to sell their games like this.

Aww, that's sad, I guess that means that when I will finally pay for the game when it's in a complete package will also be "subject to change".

Have they figured out yet that even long time fans of the series like myself (I LOVE this franchise, always finding something new on each play through) are willing to just wait until they finished the game?

Look at the reviews on the steam account, they're lambasting it for this.
