HL2 lift glitch- help needed

O.k, so I bought the orange box yesterday. I loaded up portal and HL2. I enjoyed portal, it was a good game.

So is HL2 until-
Alex saved me from the troopers. She then activates the lift and chats. Then she just stands ther, and won't let me continue onwards. I have tried the F6/F9 thing, but that doesnt work for me. I tried a patch, and that didn't work either.

Does anyone have any constructive suggestions as to what I should do?

You're not very far into the game anyway, if you're at where I think you are.

You could try using a cheat. I know it sounds strange but if you use noclip to get far enough beyond her, the game might kick back into gear.

Download a nude patch, so at least you have something to look at while you wait around.


Hmm sorry, but the only thing I can come up with is to reinstall the game. It doesn't sound you are that far into the game so it should not be a major problem, right?

If that doesn't solve the problem, perhaps there are cheats that let you start at the next level. You may miss out on some of the story though. Good luck!

You need to enable developer commentary/ the console box
Change the icon. I cant remember exactly so do a google search on it if you don't get a response.
Then type sv_cheats = 1
I think. Sorry man I'm tired.

No, you don't need to enable the developer commentary. Just the console, which you activate with "~". After that, while the console is up, you got the first part right... type "sv_cheats 1" (no equal sign). Then, noclip 1. It might not work, because they Alyx NPC does need to be with you, but, if you get to the point where it says "Red Letter Day", go to "New Game" and start at that chapter, bypassing the glitch alltogether.

EDIT: Sadly, you would miss some dialogue. It would be nothing important... Just her talking about her father, mentioning Breen, and a couple other things.

Well it looks like they already answered the cheat question... so I guess I'll just say that in the end, isn't this glitch really just a commentary on the human condition? Stuck right before you move to the next level. And you'll never really know if the next portion of your life is going to be any better, because you just can't get there.

Go to your Games menu on steam, right click Halflife 2 and click "Verify game cache" It will scan the game for missing or corrupt files and redownload the missing files.

If all else fails delete the HL2 folder in steam/steamapps//HalfLife 2, then launch the game, steam will redownload all the missing files.

I think there is a save game after the lift somewhere. Try searching it on torrents or something like that.

I had the same problem, it's quite simple really, what you do, is that you get on the elevator as soon as it opens, if you do that in glitches, you have to obey chivalry and let the ladies go first.

Not really, while you do get past to where you need to go, without Alyx, you can't really go ahead in the story, the more clever move would be to simply jump a level.

Or restart the level.
HL2 has to have at least that much replayability.

then un no clip at the bottom and walk around to try and trigger a load zone - i'm pretty sure alyx moves along with the loading.

That's weird. Maybe verify the integrity of the game cache?

Also, you have met the system requirements, right?
