HL2DM Video - first take

Ok, just a few points.

1. This isn't a review, it belongs in Gaming Discussion, where I will move it after I am done posting.

2. A little bit more body to your opening post would be appreciated. Tell us something about the video, don't just post a link.

3. I'm not sure quite how to say this without offending you, as I'm assuming you made the level, but that thing is hideous. The design in terms of placement of brushes and the like seems decent enough, although it looks more like a Unreal Tournament level than a Half-Life 2 Death Match. It's the custom textures that you use. They have a sort of "Original Quake" feel to them, like an Iron Maiden cover come to life.

If I might make a suggestion, look at using some of the combine textures, turn it into some Overwatch facility or something. You can keep the design pretty much the same, although you might need to put a roof on the thing. I think it would look a lot better and could make for a really cool level.

If this is some sort of frag video? Uhm... It's really not that great. The music is nice though, a couple of the grenade kills were actually pretty nice. Otherwise to me this is mediocre. :S

That's a good question. Have I made a mistake and it's a video of kills rather than showing off the level you made?

The level was on a server someone else was hosting. this was just supposed to be a frag vid. Its my first attempt. I was wondering if anyone thought that I did even a decent job on the editing.

Well I'm not sure about Half-Life 2's limitations with video editing, but Quake III has its own method of video capture, which lets you capture a video at any resolution and any FPS (Frames Per Second) without being limited by CPU power. Thing is it takes more time since it isn't a "Live" recording.

Take a look at some of the work at www.own-age.com you can find a bunch of well edited videos, and some of them are simply fantastic.

One of my personal favorites is The Pledge, a Quake III Arena frag video with some awesome editing.

The Youtube stream isn't the best quality, but it gives you a general idea of what else is out there. Not to be discouraging, but take this more as a source of inspiration.
