So today me and the family went to watch Cirque Du Soleil at the local AMC. The show that was put on was spectacular, and deserves a high mark for viewing, just wish that the audience turn out was a bit higher though. I took a look back at the audience and there must have been like 8 people my family included. It was sad really how that realization of reality hits where the films and games with the highest kill, explosion, and action scenes get the highest recommendation to view while the one's that get the most planning, precision, and beauty in it get treated as a third rate production.

There's not much to say about it besides "The times they are a changing"
They couldn't possibly believe the same performance being done year after year would still give the same turn out right? I agree it's magnificent and extremely impressive but when it's being done year after year it loses it's spark. A sad truth of life.

I have heard the show can be extremely expensive and above most peoples price ranges which would kill audience turn out.

I've been to a Cirque before, and the whole thing was packed. The tickets did cost a pretty penny, and who knows how long the show was on for?

I really don't think this has anything to do with violence.

I've never been and never really cared to go to a Cirque Du Soleil show of any kind. I sincerely doubt I ever will go to one either but then I can say I have a good idea of how you feel. The kind of thing I do enjoy that doesn't involve murder (much) or modern war is musical theater and certain film adaptations of certain shows. I liked Phantom of the Opera (heh, Gerard Butler) and I plan on going to see Les Mis either this week or next in theaters. I don't see many other people opting to see that if they still haven't seen The Hobbit or...whatever else is currently playing.

I'm not surprised, their lack of monkeys in suits riding unicycles over an elephant is really a big letdown.

We're talking about the new film, right?

Because it actually did a not-too-bad per-theater gross for its opening weekend. For (relatively) wide releases, it would have been placed fourth. Each theater did around $2500, which is not too bad.

Maybe it's just not popular where you live, or you picked a bad time, or something like that.

same here.
watched it in Vegas and we paid a tidy sum for our tickets, the box office/ticket vendor said they were the last 2 available. dunno if that was truth or a selling tactic but it was a full house and amazing show!
had no idea what was going on but it was very enjoyable.

the op has a point though, certain media that aren't very good are rammed down our throats whilst other things that deserve credit don't get it so readily.
in this instance I would say perhaps the time of year might have an influence on such a small turnout.
