Are you honestly surprised?

EDIT: The most useful number for me in those articles is that mentioning how the PS3 sold 10million games this past year and a bit. Not bad really for a console people swore would fail.

Great, I guess gamers will now become mainstream and I'll have to find a new hobby if I want to feel special. It'll either be looking for the next biggest thing or going retro and reviving PnP roleplaying... :p

What did we "win" exactly? Acting like this is what distances "gamers" from other people even more.

That won't last for ever mate. One day, they're going to find a way to add motion controls to PnP RP

Yay!!!! Maby developers will try harder now to plaease a bigger crowd.
If games are to do anything as a whole, they'll get worse. For the reason you stated. Publishers will aim for a wider audience, which means they'll call for games that are very generic and bland so that they'll apply to more people. And they'll call for games that are fit to a more casual audience. So the market will end up with even more games whose focus is little games that entire families can play, and the ratio of aimed-at-kids to aimed-at-mature-people games will get worse.

PnP RPGs already have motion controls. Very, very exact motion controls. It's just the player's (or GM's) option to make use of them. (Come on, never acted some complex action out or been so into it you've swung an imaginary sword at someone?)

EDIT: Sorry for the double-post. Was going to edit this in to my previous post, but hit "POST" absentmindedly.

Let this be the day when reading dies! Huzzah!

I knew this would happen years ago. Gaming will soon be for educational purposes, I can see it now:

Teacher: Students plug in your xbox's and start up L4D
Little billy: Teacher I left L4D at home
Teacher: Thanks to billy you all have Force Unleashed for homework tonight!
Students: NOOOOOO!

What exactly did we win? And what is the prize? And when did the competition start in the first place?

I did once. I swung my sword against a column. GM used it against me. My sword broke. Has to be said, was playing with a really bad GM. Too controlly.

Some people are still convinced that it has failed and that it is effectively the new Dreamcast.
Except the Dreamcast actually did something besides having good graphics. (At the time)

What did we win? Against who?

The articles are basically:
1. "Games industry boss says the games industry is the bestest industry ever."
2. "Games sell."
