This is the first Holiday season in a long time where I've found myself having to pick and choose between multiple good game options. I don't have time for them all, and the cost starts to add up quick. Here's the rundown.
1. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: I will be playing this. But first either the price comes down or they improve the game with more content. Either way. If I were really impressed with a demo I might get it sooner than later.
2. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2: This one jumped on my radar after being impressed with the demo. Tight controls in a beautiful game world. Only problem is, I couldn't tell the difference between Ryu and his attackers. Put in an option to draw a circle around Ryu and this could easily be a buy.
3. Demon's Souls: I'm not really into the look or the mythology of this one, so I was about to skip it, but everything I hear about it intrigues me, particularly the ghostly multiplayer aspect and the famous tough-but-fair gameplay. This one really needs a demo--both to test the controls and see just what they mean by "tough."
4. Uncharted 2: The consensus seems to be this is a flawless execution of a well-trodden genre, but a genre which has never really excited me (I haven't played a single Lara Croft game). Still, the flawless execution has perked up my ears. If people are still gaga over it in three months I'll probably get it. If it fades into obscurity like Killzone 2 will probably skip.
5. Brutal Legend: though personally I'm not that much into metal, I appreciate it for what it is. I've come to respect it. For that, Brutal Legend caught my interest, plus I'd love to play an RTS on the console, especially one with such imaginative units. But widespread reports of poor controls, an inadequate user interface, and even some performance issues have left me with a wait-and-see attitude. If they can fix most of the controls and UI issues with a couple patches I'll get it.
6. Borderlands: This one has always been vacillating on and off my list. The coop multiplayer seems like a Road Warrior version of Left for Dead which has me interested. If other games, for reasons above, don't make the cut, I might give this one a go.
7. League of Legends: since a good chunk of the game will be free for download, no reason not to give it a try, and then get the full game if I like it. So likely this will be my next game.
8. Aion: I'm interested in all MMOs. But reviews are coming in rather slow from the gaming sites I like, which usually isn't a good sign. Seems like Asian WoW to me. For the moment, Champions is making me happy.
And this is just October...
At 50-60 bucks per game this would be around $400 for all of them. So future patches and content releases will be needed to narrow things down. Sorry this turned into a wall of text but I thought I would share. Feel free to post your list.
