My laziness saved my life. I was crossing the street to get the mail, and after grabbing it, I looked left (no cars there), then right. Lots of cars were coming from the right, and I waited ages for the line to end. Then, instead of running back up to my house like I often do when it's as cold as it was that day, I felt like being lazy and walking. I suddenly saw something out of the corner of my eye, and dove backwards, literally an inch away from being hit by a huge truck (damn thing was going at 60 mph when my road's speed limit is 30, though it was also my fault for not looking left again after looking right for so long). I heard a horn and the sound of burning rubber, and saw it pull to a stop well past where I had been. If I had taken a longer step across the road, I would definitely not have been able to dive out of the way in time.
