I can think of one way they could make Portal 2 really awesome. Instead of making the entire game dedicated to Portal, they could instead make it so you play as Gordon Freeman in Portal 2 and he discovers how the Portal universe fits in with the Half-Life universe. Also, it would be really cool if they renamed Portal 2 "Half-Life 2: Episode 3."

Just some ideas.
