They were probably looking for more cartoon porn to put Americans in jail over.

Actually, reality being what it is smuggling continues because it's pretty much impossible to check everything carried by trucks, planes, boats, etc...

Geekdom has been targeted before and usually we laugh about it when a shipment of something we're interested in is hit. The whole thing vaguely reminds me of the old "GURPS Cyberpunk" schtick from a few years ago the shipments of which were raided by the FBI. I believe Wikipedia covers it pretty well in their section on the "Legion Of Doom" (hacker group that was big then).

Truthfully I doubt they seized it because of the title, but because someone told them there was something up with that shipment (accuratly or not). We'll probably never know the exact details or if they actually found anything in this paticular case.

As far as seizing "cartoon porn" if that's a referance to the whole "Puni Puni Poemy" thing that's kind of amusing since I'm not sure if you can even consider that porn except perhaps in the loosest definition. While a bit off color, it's a spin off of Excel Saga for fans of that anime (and honestly a fairly aquired taste in humor). I'm surprised that went as far as it did. I wasn't aware anyone actually went to jail for it.

It's also entirely possible they didn't have anything better to do. When taxes pay your salary, it's generally a bad idea to be doing NOTHING, because it gives politicians the impression that your organization doesn't need as much money as it's getting now... for example, the money used to make it so you have a job there and it doesn't suck as much as it could (and government work can REALLY suck).

I can easily picture some DHS employees realizing there was nothing going on under their watch, and looking for something to do until there was.

Someone should tell DHS that it's just a game. They should also ignore most of the titles on my bookshelf...
What? It's not like they sent the Secret Service in to arrest everyone involved and seize equipment [http://www.sjgames.com/SS/] just for printing a gamer guide.

And they definitely need to ignore my bookshelf. Nothing on there, no siree.

They probably have intelligence that led them to believe the shipment was a guise for dangerous contraband. It's obvious that they wouldn't release information about the incident if it was bad intel. They still don't want [censored by the DHS] to know that they know [censored by the DHS] is [censored by the DHS] because of a little mishap. Just be glad that nothing did get through. They had to put their less competent workers at the White House Dinner for this...

Wish I could say this is surprising. But it's really not...

Way to go, guys. Another job well done.

And this is what my tax dollars go towards...
Ugh, no kidding... Really wish there was a way to hold these morons accountable for wasting taxpayers' money.

I think it took them a week because when the DHS workers made a thorough inspection of the merchandise, they discovered that it was fun, and spent a week playing Monsterpocalypse before guilt finally overcame them and they gave the books back.

I still don't have a guide, but the store here's pretty bad about not ordering stuff after a date gets changed. This is oooooooooooooold news anyway.
