Okay, so I have to do a relativity simple project for my Bio class. The project requires me to make up a species that will be alive in 50 million years and present in front of the class. I have to name a current species and describe how it lives, then describe my species and tell how it has evolved and adapted in order to live in its new environment 50 million years later.

Naturally, instead of making up my own species, I decided to use a Gyarados.

My Bio teacher wouldn't know that I didn't make it up, but all the other people in my class would know what I'm talking about. So, basically I want to make as many references to Pokemon without my teacher catching on.

I need an environment and minimum of 5 adaptations. I was thinking about saying it evolved from an eel or giant squid because saying "It evolved from a Magicarp" may give it away. If you have an idea other than a gyarados then that's fine too, but it's midnight in 3 hours and I'll probably go to sleep around then. I don't really need any help, but I figured I might ask you guys first. Thanks in advance.

Edit: he's a pretty chill teacher, and even if he does take off points, I doubt it'll get lower than a 'B'. This is a very small project, mainly to check for understanding, the copyright thing won't be a problem.

Brilliant idea but I'm fairly certain you teacher will find out eventually and deduct you point for plagiarizing since you're calling it your own...

Dude i'd be careful, he totally may know what a gyrados is... OT: He lives is large lakes, and may have a rare genetic condition that makes him red. The adaptations are tricky... He could have developed a pump system that allows him to shoot water at high velocities.
EDIT:
Biology

Physiology

Gyarados is a large dragon Pokémon most similar in appearance to those seen in Chinese mythology. Its serpentine body is largely blue, but its underbelly and the spots along its body are yellow. It has a three-pointed, dark blue crest on its head and four white fins down its back. Its mouth is very large and gaping, but bears some resemblance to that of its pre-evolution Magikarp. Like Magikarp, it has barbels on its face. Its pectoral and dorsal fins also resemble Magikarp's. Gyarados is only rarely shown with its mouth closed.

Gender differences
A female has white barbels.

Special abilities
Gyarados, like most dragon-like Pokémon, has a high Attack stat, causing it to rely more on physical attacks than special ones. It is one of the few Water-types able to wield both Fire-type and Electric-type attacks. Its fangs can crush stones and its scales are harder than steel.

Behavior
This Pokémon bears little resemblance to its docile pre-evolution. Gyarados is infamously known for its fierce temper and wanton destructive tendencies. Once it has worked itself into a frenzy, it will not calm until everything around it is destroyed?this tendency is attributed to the dramatic structural changes its brain undergoes during evolution. It seems attracted to violence, although this Pokémon is very rarely seen in the wild. During times of human conflict Gyarados are said to appear, burning entire cities down to the ground.

Habitat
Gyarados usually live in large bodies of water, such as lakes and ponds or even seas and oceans. The Lake of Rage is the best known nesting area for Gyarados, and most famously, the red Gyarados, however, they are still quite rare even in the Lake Of Rage, as they are seldom found in the wild.

Origin
It appears to be based on a sea dragon or sea serpent. Gyarados is partially based on a legend about how carp that leapt over the Dragon Gate would become dragons. Several waterfalls and cataracts in China are believed to be the location of the Dragon Gate. This legend is an allegory of the drive and efforts needed to overcome obstacles (which can be tied to the fact that Gyarados' pre-evolution, Magikarp, could possibly take a lot of drive and effort to legitimately evolve into Gyarados).

Etymology
Gyarados's name may be derived from a combination of 虐殺 gyakusatsu massacre/slaughter, and 逆境 gyakkyō, hardship/adversity. Both words relate to the creature's violent nature and the hardship it experienced before evolving. The end of Gyarados' name, ドス dosu, is a Japanese onomatopeic word representing the piercing of flesh, once again owing to Gyarados' violent nature. Alternatively, the dos may just indicate that it's the second in its evolutionary line.

It evolved from a magical carp? This is hard and it is midnight. Way too late for me to think on it. Great idea though as long as you don't get in trouble.

Which he uses to stun prey drinking by the shore line which he then eats.

I agree though, this is a really risky topic. I'm sure the class's reaction to this will also tip him off that something is up, and all he needs to do is to go to Google, and type up the name of it to figure this out. I wouldn't do it if I were you.

How are you going to explain how a fish turns into a dragon?
Heh, that gives me an idea. Since they made Gyrados be Water and Flying types, not dragon type (so that it would get 4X damage from electricity), you could talk about how, although it appears to be a dragon, it's actually a bird.

A big Lizard would make more sense, take the Kimono Dragon for instance, it's barely changed since it came into existence millions of years ago.

Things you should mention are:

Self defence mechanisms - spines/venom/toughened-armored scales etc.
Survivability - Diet (pick something logical) - How is gets food eg. Hunts/gathers from trees etc.
- Most active times (Day/Night) - Things it has suited for these times eg. big eyes for night.

That should get you well on the way

A fish into a bird? This is going to get some weird faces.

This one's weird too.

Hahaha. I once dressed up like Ash Ketchum and gave a speech akin to the original theme song for English class. It's good to see people using Pokemon in school, but if you're supposed to make one up I'd be really careful using copyrighted things.

Pick Blastoise. Because when nature gives you ten-ton steel cannons on your shoulder as part of growing up, you know you're doing something right.

Or you could use Scyther. Grown up Praying Mantises, yeah? That would be easy to explain, I think. Don't give direct size / weight quotes though, because even in 5 million years, it would be hard for a species to change that drastically. Give them some kind of reasonable habitation setting, as well. Lives in small packs, cleverly plans out thing like Velociraptors from the Dinosaur-era, and hates Red for some ungodly reason. (Don't ask me, the original TV series did it.)
Something to work off of, at least.

Actually, right before handing out the assignment the teacher had a watch some corny-ass Animal Planet video about future animals. One of the animals were fish that literally flew. The video was hilarious, I'm sure I'm not the only one not taking this too seriously.

If the teacher doesn't figure it out before hand (they're ALOT smarter then you think most often, and if s/he has kids . . . those kids love Pokemon . . . we all did at one point, and that point was before we were smart enough to know our parents don't care. Especially if you use stock images of Gyrados (but that would give you away no matter what) you'd be better off just making up something really.

Infact here's a few ideas:

(note: take or leave any names or details)

1: The Air Fury (working name), it has a 5 foot wide wing span (tip to tip) leather sinew flesh, flies through the air during the night and twilight hours, feeds on other animals. But lives predominately solitary lives on account of the large size. Most often Choosing to burrow into the trunks of trees come sunlight hours to rest until the night falls again. Obviously this creature evolved form the bat. With the smaller and smaller number of traditional birds being found around it, the need for the bat to find other prey became larger. With the lack of birds, it was forced to find larger prey, and thus forced to itself, grow larger.

2: The Streamer. A small breed of shark, largely fresh water, but extremely long and tube shaped. Found mostly in mangrove rivers that connect to larger open oceans where sharks that are native to the fresh/saltwater mix together, the Streamer is called such as it has long black streaks along it's body, aiding it in hiding within the twisting roots of the mangroves until it's prey is close enough for it to strike.

3: The Blind Canine. A form of Wolf now native to the extensive cave like subways of Russia. After the Exodus/Apocoplypse of Humanity, the subway tunnels were left uncontrolled and untouched. The wolves originally chased prey into them, but soon began to den within them, as they worked their way deeper into the tunnels, their spawn grew more accustomed to the dark winding tunnels. Their fur an ashey grey, their eyes nearly useless, their ears larger and wider opento allow them to hear past the echoes within the tunnels. Their snouts longer by the generations to smell the scents within the dank tunnels of what used to be Siberia.

Again, take it or leave it . . . any of those are sure to get you past the teacher without someon going "OI DAT'S A POKE-MAN!"

*snicker*
yeah I did something similar in my psychology class(the project was to make a religion).
unfortunatly for me, my teacher plays final fantasy and reads vgcats(I did not see that coming, especially THAT teacher 0_0) so you may want to pull out while you still have a little time.
learn from Noble's mistake.

EDIT:
oh, and I know you know this already, but make a mock-up image drawn in pen/cil or else hell will break loose, he'll know for sure and the jig will be up.

Alligator.
Deeper waters, so no legs.
Turbulent, thus dorsal fins to cut current.
Large, because it would get swallowed up otherwise.
And that all I can think of.

I do appreciate your concern, but either your high school is/was way stricter than mine or you don't understand the insignificance of this assignment. If worst comes to worst the teacher will want to say something to me after class. It's just a few powerpoint slides with a couple pictures and a couple bullets, and I know that a couple other people I've talked to are going to do a pokemon as well.

Yea, I already have a picture drawn and scanned. It's not like a trace or anything either.

Well, I'm a teacher in training. They really put the idea about copyrights into my own head.

That, what if someone blows your cover and makes fun of you?

Well I'm not really concerned at all about getting embarrassed, if that's what you meant, but the teacher did say that if the presentation was comical or childish we may have 5 points deducted (which would make it an 87.5%). Besides the animal, though, I'm really following all the directions and taking in what the teacher intended for the project to teach us. It's not like the fact that I'm using a pokemon will lessen the lesson in any way, so if I get the 5 points off then so be it, but I think anything more would be slightly ridiculous.
