Money does not make you happy, but with money you can buy other things that make you happy.

Yes, money can buy injections of endorphins into your spinal column, creating happiness, the thing is, no happyness lasts and since you have to pay for bought happiness the let down is bigger

Short answer: yes
Long Answer: With enough money you can buy anything and can afford to simulate any kind of relationship(i.e. buy friends and a trophy wife). You can also afford to go out a look for love, which most people without money cannot. You have no limits on you so you are free to truly pursue happiness. Those without money will never have that freedom so they will never be as happy. So, yes. Money bring happiness and poverty does not.

YES.

But it's dependant on how you got this money. If you stole it from the mafia, and have to hide for the rest of your life, then, no. But if you won the lottory or worked for it, then, yes.

Money can buy you a Jetski

Have you ever seen a sad person on one of them?
They're smiling as they hit the pier.

funny that i was just chatting with my cousin about this...

Everyone used to feel oh so philosophical and enlightened by saying money cannot buy happiness

that is a Blatant Fricking lie.

Right now, for me to be really happy...i want to go on a vacation and guess what, its gonna cost me money..and i know the more money i have, the happier i would be, cause then i would be able to take a friend or two along and we would have a blast!

Money CAN and WILL buy happiness!!
Not for everyone, cause some people can never be happy until they are dead.

Most people have tossed in good quotes and such, so I'll just add my two cents:

Money only buys happiness when you earn the money you spend. The act of earning the money makes the things you buy with it more special to you and thus makes you more happy to have them. It also turns you in to a person who appreciates the effort required to attain what money can buy and thus someone who appreciates their life more overall.

Money can buy components to happiness. You have to fit it together into happiness.

Well, you can buy escort girls and fine alcohols. So, it can buy you immediate gratification.
However, that doesn't necessarily mean happiness.

So I guess the anwser is... not in the long term.

No, we live in a consumer based economy, were ever thing is screaming at us buy, buy, buy and eventually it seeps into your skull that you need stuff to be happy. And were not talking about the necessities, I'm talking about unnecessary stuff like a car or a mansion.

Look at this its a chart of peoples happiness in 97 countries.

I'm more happy hanging out and having fun with friends than powning a 100 noobs in the game of your choice. That stuff only brings you short term happiness that rarely lasts. Think I about it.

Do you get more hours of fun out of Fallout 3 or hanging out with your friends. If you answered Fallout consider you self emotionally deprived and depressed.

Money gives its owner the ability to purchase objects which create happiness. So, no, money cannot buy happiness.

The best things in my life are my family, friends and partner. Money could of never bought me those things. (before someone says it my girlfriend and I met when we were both very poor and young)

But obviously money will make your life more comfortable, but when I really think about it, truly happy people are happy with or without money. It goes the other way as well, plenty of depressive and sad people who are wealthy.

In this day and age, yeah. You need money for everything, even in relationships, at least from my own experience.

Money gives the feeling of security, upon which one can start building happiness. Today surviving doesn´t mean hunting daily for food and fighting off attacking tribes. It means earning one´s living and avoiding poverty. I agree that having someone very close to you by your side can be a huge support, but being unable to provide yourself and your companions daily necessities have been known to ruin even most solid families (You know, constant worrying and stress causing depression and that kind of shit).

I´m not sure whether I´m agreeing or disagreeing with you, but that´s neither here nor there. I simply approve.

Money can remove sources of unhappyness like hunger, fear, and envy. Once these things are removed weather you are happy or not is based on the type of person you are.

So no money can't buy happness, but it sure helps.
