So being a big fan of A song of ice and fire, I was really looking forward to the Game of Throne rpg that's coming out today.

Not only is it based in Martin's universe, but it looked like a solid, no-non sense western rpg. Similar to the original Dragon Age in gameplay.

Early reviews are trickling in and apparently, it's really bad. Like 4 out of 10 bad. I could have overlooked an average score, but not a game that seems to be extremely buggy and have been lazily designed.

The problem, as it is, is that I'm really looking for a new game... I've beat Mass Effect 3 & Kingdom of Amalur and played a fair amount of Skyrim recently and even took over the world in Mount & Blade: Warband... and I can't say I feel like returning to any of those titles. I have not tried to Witcher 2, but that's mainly because I thought the Witcher 1 wasn't a really good game, so I had little interest in trying the follow up.

Any suggestion? I'm looking mainly for an rpg (altho it doesn't have to be)... mainly something deep that I can lose myself in for a couple of days/weeks.

Witcher 2 is 10,000x the game Witcher 1 was, and arguably the closest thing in tone to ASoIaF in gaming. I didn't even finish the first Witcher (too tedious, too fussy), and Witcher 2 was one of the best RPGs I ever played.

This coming from a huge ASoIaF fan. Get ye up on Witcher 2, post-haste.

The Witcher 2 is waaay more like Game of Thrones than any other game out there. It's also one of my favourite games ever, so much replayability value and a lot funner than the original game.

You could look at getting Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga, it looks pretty fun and is apparently a deep story based RPG.

Also Dark Souls.

I'm 20 hours into Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 and it's pretty cool and unique. The story is, well, fairly jrpg-ish, but the actual gameplay is really fun. It's a cross between turn based tactical, puzzle, and fps. Each battle has to be thought about, and you really have to master your resources, and if you are a perfectionist like me and need to get the 'A' grades, then there is a real challenge. There is also a fair amount of rpg stuff as you get to R&D equipment, level up different types of troops, and choose particular soldiers for your squad. It takes place in a fictional 1930's Europe.

I had no intention of playing the game, but I like videogame artbooks, so I bought the 500 page design archive a couple of months ago. I was amazed at the amount of artwork that was commissioned for the game and the amount of world creation that went on, and so I bought the game. But, like I said, you need to be able to deal with the very Japanese nature of the art and story. I'm not a fan of Manga or JRPGs, but I don't hate them either. I think if someone hated them, they probably would not like this game.

It didn't sell too well, so I doubt we'll be seeing this type of gameplay again any time soon, but if you are looking for a game with deep gameplay to get engrossed in, you might like it.
