I've noticed that there seem to be a lot of depressing threads on The Escapist so I thought I'd try and brighten people's day.

http://www.givesmehope.com/

I've been reading the posts on this website and they truely do make me feel that maybe there is some hope left for mankind.

What do you think? And have you ever had an experience or know of one that gives you hope?

No. There is no hope for humanity. We are doomed.
Erm, thanks...shot down on the very first post. Well thanks for contributing anyway.

Well, humanity have some theories of immortality. We know now that breathing wears out your cells, I E making you age.
But breathing is also a part of your source of working at all, so that's two sides of the coin...

How to counter-act the aging is at hand! Have faith for the geniuses of humanity!

Alas, I suspect right now some deucebag bought a pair of pink trousers in Kentucky and is being a deuce about it afterwards for not having his eyes peeled.
I can only think of an reenactment.

"I couldn't tell they were pink! It was too dark"
"Sir, you could see perfectly fine in the daytime. We never have the flea market open up for business at night or when it's cloudy enough for it to actually count as "dark""
"Well, well... Fuck you! I'm suing you for... For... Somethin'! You just wait."
"Sigh"

Not that it cheers anyone specifically up, but hey... For every genius, there's ten idiots.

Is it wrong that it makes me feel sick? Seriously, first one I saw "Just because she can't be there doesn't mean she can't watch." Bullshit. She's dead. That just gives me hope that guys know what to say to get laid.

"GMH" GMH? Way to reduce something that actually had a shot at being meaningful into some retarded net-speak.

The whole thing's all too lovey-dovey, it pisses me off. It's not even like that in a good way, with puppies and shit. I bet you 90% of those stories are made up.

The TV show "Allsång på Skansen", where a big bunch of people go sing songs together at Skansen in Stockholm, got great ratings when it was on TV here in Sweden. That gives me hope for the future.

Fair enough if that's how you feel about it. I was only trying to see if people did have hope for mankind instead of just 'oh mankind sucks, the world is doomed' dreary stuff all the time. But again, if you don't like it fair enough.

I do agree that there are many sad threads on the escapist. I'm not sure why someone believing in an afterlife would make anyone mad, however

Also: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/HeartwarmingMoment/RealLife

There's this page, and then there's ten VERY long pages' worth of troper contributions.

My personal thoughts: Shit happens, sometimes in abundance, but for every crappy thing that happens, there's ten awesome things happening. They may be small things, but they happen, whether we see them or not. You just have to look carefully.

Big things that are obviously awesome: Humans and machines explore space fairly regularly these days. Science has defeated some sorts of disease; while not extinct, a lot that were formerly immediate death sentences are now at least treatable enough to allow the sufferer a longer, fulfilling life. In times of disaster (natural or manmade), ordinary people off the street will often jump in to help their fellow man--to rescue or support him however they can.

Small things that might slip past unnoticed: People fall in love; however fleeting it may be, while it lasts, it's powerful and beautiful. Strangers sometimes stop to help each other in the street--with anything from holding doors open for people with their hands full, or helping to move something heavy for old folks. People young and old happily volunteer for good causes (my youngest stepsister decided to spend her entire summer vacation teaching younger children to enjoy reading; my grandmother spends almost all of her time volunteering either at a military history museum, at the local elementary school, or at a soup kitchen). Grannies at gas stations and ninjas on subway trains foil robberies. Illiterate African boys build electricity-generating windmills out of garbage found in the local dump and bring power to the whole village.

Cliche but true: It's small things that really make life great. Like I said, shit happens, sometimes in abundance, and I won't deny that sometimes people DO suck. But that doesn't mean that shit is ALL that happens and that ALL people suck. Sometimes, if you give the world and its people a chance, they can amaze.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ramble. I probably sound like a misplaced kindergarten teacher or something. XD

Is this because of the "what are we sick of hearing" thread?

I know this is not the point of the site, but I laughed when each post starts put with something very depressing. Like "I was raped a month ago" or "My mother is Dead". Do we really need the backstory on a website that is supposed to make us feel good?

Also, everyone who has no faith in humanity has no logic to back it up, an the statment makes no sense. If the world really were a cesspool of everything terrible, its amazing that we have as many intellectual, helpful, and positive threads and replies on this website. If humanity had no hope we'd spend all our time here harassing, insulting, and trying to make each other's lives a living hell. Like I always say, there is a lot of bad and a lot of good in this world, focus on whichever half you like.

No, according to 50 percent of Escapist members, they lost hope for Mankind.

You hear that?

They lost their mankind spirt, which mean they can't channel their fighting spirit into the mecha so they can defeat the Anti spiral.

We...are in a word...fuck.

No!

I won't be like the rest of you, I'm going to keep going forward till I die...and even than I'l carry on through sheer willpower...

Heh. I found GMH, realised it was a retaliation to FML and all I could think was 'damn hippies. Why do they always have to RUIN everything?! We had a perfectly lovely misanthropic hatefest going on and they went and got their HAPPY all over it. Amateurs.'

I am jaded beyond my years.
