Recently I've ben looking through my games that I've bought over the years and have really thought about wether or not it was a good idea to buy them in the first place, so my question is if you (who am I kidding of course you have) have bought a game, played it and realised how blistering shit it was just that little bit too late. A recent example of this for me is the newest AC instalment AC3. I loved the series, up until now, even revelations was bearable for the majority of the game but for AC3, I just could not for the life of me play it, the story (now bare in mind these are my opinions, not yours) was absolute shit and the controller revamps (was playing on a 360, tried PS, same deal) were terrible and I just could not immerse myself in the game. Off you go now.

Games that I bought and were so shit I actually took back are tomb raider and the angel of darkness and Aqua Panic 2 cant remember anymore but there are probably are a few.

Games which I bought and struggled on with only to abandon because they were so shit are The Last Remnant and Nightmare creatures (awesome first level shit thereafter). I have of course not completed many more games but thats either because I didnt like it enough or got bored or it got to difficult for me rather than it just being plain shit so to speak.

I did have a lot of really shit C64 games but I cant remember them all its much easier just to remember the good ones as there were far fewer of these.

The Wii version of the Alone in the Dark reboot.

I thought it would provide extra immersion with the motion controls.

Dem textures...*shudder*

Previously :
Metroid: other M .
Madworld
Wild arms ( i finished all the sequels but the original bored me to tears )

That's about it , i try to push my way through any gme i buy but those 4 are terrible .

Honorable mentions :

Records of Agrest war : Zero
Resonance of Fate .

Not because they are bad , but because i'm too retarded to wrap my head around the combat system .

Good lord, Sonic '06. Now one thing I should say is that my opinion can vary on this game, depending on what mood I'm in. It can go between "I know it's bad, but it had some neat things in it. And the music is always excellent as usual" to "I AM GOING TO KILL EVERY LAST EMPLOYEE OF SONIC TEAM FOR THIS...THIS HITLER OF VIDEOGAMES. TO THE VARIOUS PIECES OF MUSIC FROM THE ADMITTEDLY GOOD SOUNDTRACK"

Never, ever again will I think "You know what might be a neat challenge? To try and fully complete as many of the main Sonic games before X Sonic game comes out." (for reference this was the Sonic Adventure 2 remake when it came out for XBLA)

I was really enjoying myself going through all the various games, getting all the Chaos Emeralds and all that jazz that you do in the other games and then BOOM. It's like hitting a brick wall.

The game is the reason that Sonic fans can't really stick our heads up anywhere without fear of ridicule. I mean, there have been Sonic games that weren't great, but this is just pure unadulterated shit at times. It's not the "Big Rigs" funny type of shit either. Just pure utter shit. Apart from the soundtrack of course.

I have to go for MGS2 and as much as I would like to say otherwise MGS3. God, MGS2 is just one long boring as hell cutscene and what few gameplay sections there are are lacklustre at best. The guy on the radio will never shut the fuck up, you can't walk two steps without him going "oh you're getting closer, let me talk at you for another 5 minutes" *gets to objective* "Oh let me recap what your mission is for the fifteenth time" *walks another 2 steps* "Oh I forgot to menti-"

Also there's a bit where Vamp singlehanded makes 2/3 hours of gameplay absolutely null and void for no good reason. They were the only interesting bits of gameplay as well.

Don't even get me started on the convoluted mess that was the story.

Oh and MGS3, while having having a decent story and is somewhat interesting it expects me to fight The Fear with the most god AWFUL gun controls the world has ever seen. You have hold several buttons and somehow move the stick AND deal with recoil AND deal with his invisibilty and stupid mobility. I can handle the shit controls in stealth because you have time to line up your shots but fast paced action ruins it.

I too feel victim to that awful game althought I bought it cos the trailers/ gameplay I saw of it were in fact were the 360.
Yes the texture were dreadful but it also worse due to the wonky driving car section (don't they know the weight of a car?) and the lack of the cobining the items together (why can't I make flaming bullets that my mate did in his 360 version) and the different plot and character altogehter (what's up with that?).

Chalk up another one for Sonic '06. I bought it before I was really spending any time around video gaming-related websites and it was a Sonic game, so I didn't bother checking how it was received or anything. Boy, it took all of my effort to not turn the game off and stop playing when I reached "Crisis City", and after playing through Sonic's story I tried playing through the other two, but I just couldn't do it.

And that game, along with a spin-off (for some reason; At least Shadow was still a functional game) and the stigma from the Werehog (engine/framerate issues aside, Unleashed was playable too and the night sections weren't even all that terrible, just generic and far too long) have managed to completely destroy Sonic's reputation and somehow retroactively made the other Sonic games bad too (and as far as the earlier 3D Sonic games are concerned, at least the actual Sonic segments were well-done) and now people don't care that Generations is a good game, because it's a Sonic game so how could it possibly be good.

Failed expectations and unnecessary milking of some franchises aside, it wouldn't be terribly original of me to bring up Superman 64, but it was bad. Really bad.

Monster Hunter Tri. I love the series but this was on the Wii, need I say more? The controls were stupid and painful to use to the extent the game requires. The HUD is pretty useless since it's so small on a screen that isn't a handheld and there were loads more fetch quests than the previous games.

Pokemon Black Version.

I'm sure many of you know where this is going, so I'll just leave it at that.

Glad we have Gen 6 to look forward to.

I bought the Collectors Edition of Final Fantasy XII, spending all the money I had saved up for the game back then (geez...I was like...13 then, so money was hard to get), went home, began playing it annnddd....yeah. I don't hate it as much as I did back then, but if I could tell my past self that I kind of like it today, he'd probably punch me in the face. I was pretty upset, spending all that money on a game that I TRIED to play, but couldn't get into like my beloved FFX or FFIX, FFVII, VIII, none of those. It wasn't until I finally got Kingdom Hearts that my faith in the name Square Enix was restored.

I bought the 360 version of the newest Alone in the Dark, that was just bad. So bad. Had to fight against the controls every step of the way.
I thought the first hour of Gears of War 2 was just awful. It was nothing but a series of boxes strung together where you walk into a room and take cover, you watch the locust come in and take cover, then you shoot em. This repeated until I gave up and returned the damn thing. It might have improved but I didn't around long enough to find out.

There was this fighting game about Samurai on the ps2 that was just awful. The controls were terrible and for some reason I couldn't get past the first fight no matter how much I beat the opponent. I can't even remember the name of it though. It was one of the earlier titles of that systems lifetime.

The force unleashed 2. Holy bloody hell was that an awful game. The boss fights were copied and pasted "we freeze you to death" thing. The rocket enemies were just bananas awful and repetitive. Also, what the fuck was it with 15 foot high glass see through walls in giant court yards. Who came up with that idea? And why do they still have a job?!?! Played for 3 missions and quit.

I bought FFXIII used because I at least wanted to see whether it would be somewhat enjoyable despite the bad reviews. It wasn't. Spent eight bucks on it so at least I wasn't out much, but after playing it I feel like the reviewers were being too nice. That thing is straight garbage.

...wait, are we talking about Silent Hill?

---

Add a tally to Final Fantasy XIII. I grabbed it for the PS3 after the reviews and once the price dropped a bit but before the FF13-2 reveal. I thought that it would be alright since I remember liking FFX despite the reviews giving it less than perfect 10s across the board. I didn't even mind the linearity too much but what hurt the experience for me was the combat which amounted to me selecting auto-attack and wishing the combat would just end already so I could continue clopping along another beautiful corridor. What truly and, utterly killed the experience for me was the boss fights and the fucking level cap. You see before each chapter, you can only level a character so much before you have to wait until the next chapter (this isn't as much of an issue later on) but there were some boss fights where I would get stuck being unable to win in the fight despite being maxed out. To add insult to injury, the FAQ's and videos I watched to try helping me get through those sections were absolutely no help; going so far as to call a couple of the fights I was stuck on easy.

Why can't the series go back to its roots? Bring back random encounters, keep the beautiful locations (Hell, keep them linear if need be) and let me tell everybody specifically what to do. Here's an even crazier idea: let me automatically win a random encounter instead of forcing me to sit through what amount to a 3 minute cutscene. Yes, it breaks flow somewhat to have a window pop up and say, "You just won a random encounter and gained X-exp and X-gil with X-item" but it isn't nearly as annoying as fighting the same level 10 newts as a level 25 Knight or whatever.
