We've all seen them ebfore, games turn to tv shows, movies to tv shows even books to tv shows. Most of the time they suck and Sky's version of Pratchett's "Going Postal" is no different.

It's mostly a half decent shows, if you've never read the book and think of it as an original program its quite good. oweer if you've read the book you realise just how much those Bastards have BUTCHERED it.

It was bad enough with Hogfather and the Colour of Magic when they missed bits out and ignored continuity scenes, but in Going Postal they have changed quite serious events to the book. The part that irked me the most is when the post office was on fire and the banchee tries to kill Moist. In the book he throws the banchee onto the sorting machine (a wonder product from bloody stupid johnson) and he splatters all over the room. But the tv show has the letters magically moving and burning him alive. Also instead of moist coming up with the idea for perferated sheet of stamps they have stanley having the idea. what the hell? I hate sky so much for this-.-

So my question is this:

How many of your favourite books etc have been massacred in their adaptation to a TV show?

Note: This is just for TV adaptatins not for movie adaptations, thats a whole other bucket of crazy.

EDIT: Oh gods they've even cut out a HUGE sub plot about the golems, and the postmaster induction too, and they didn't even give him his golden suit, gods i think i'm going to cry...

Apologies, because this really isn't on topic (I don't have any examples because I don't watch much TV and the only show I've ever watched based on a book was the Boondocks and that was a comic strip and it was great) but if they mess up the Walking Dead, I'm going to explode.

Yeah I really liked both Colour Of Magic and Hogfather, i've got Going Postal recorded and plan to watch tomorrow. You know what, i'm fine with them changing things, because at the end they are still damn fine pieces of TV.

I actually will admit, I hate it when people go on about how things are slightly different in the book/game etc. People are allowed to be creative, so long as it's good and in these cases I think they did a good job. I'll suggest you stop caring so much, and enjoy what is likely a good tv movie which is ruined in your eyes because of a change. It's an Adaptation after all.

Alas with going postal it's not a simple case of being creative. They've hacked out MASSIVE chunks from the plots, changed VITAL events and occurances. Moist dosn't design the stamps himself using his forgery skills to make them unforgable, he doesn't steal any of the special papers, hell they couldn't even get the death row scene right. No proper mention of the golems becoming postmen other than getting some paint on their chest, and theres not even a single mention of the dwarves trying to setup their own clacks system.

It's just an empty shell, the *bare bones* of the main plot, they didn't even have the patrician with black hair...hes...GINGER><

And hes praying to the wrong god for the money after the fire....the list apparently goes on forever.

EDIT: Apparently he does get a golden suit, but they don't show HOW he gets it, hes simply dressed normally one second then in gold the next.
