Horrizon Zero Dawn worth a buy review

This is the problem with people who thrive off of trivial pursuits like pop culture commentary on the interwebs; often times there simply isn't much worthwhile to discuss, so they pull stuff out of you-know-where as if anyone's supposed to care.

There are far greater issues than the cynicism surrounding strong female protagonists in gaming, like there has never been such a thing before *cough Metroid/Tomb Raider/Bayonetta/etc.*

Regarding the One Angry Gamer link being really that into criticizing inappropriate uses of "girl power", maybe they'd be better off starting here for example -

I'd guess he either is the WAB guy he keeps making threads to basically advertise videos of, or its a buddy of his. Like his last dozen or so threads have been the same videos with a couple of sentences tacked on.

He is best reviewer currently and say things professional reviewers will lose the job if they point out those flaws. I dont always agree with him for example his Doom review was terrible and complain about why its like old doom.

I'm glad I live in a world where we hold our reviewers to standards and fire the terrible ones. If we didn't we'd be flooded with hacks like him.

This is why I don't go on YouTube much. Jim Sterling raises similar issues over and over and does follow-ups to previous videos, often about problems that we already know are there. These people never make videos that will offend their subscribers, at least not many of them. They preach to the choir. Maybe it's because I hardly play new games anymore, but the politics just aren't that interesting anymore.

There's some pretty interesting Youtubers with regards to games like Super Bunnyhop and Errant Signal. Just like anything else, there's a load of crap out there.

This is why I don't go on YouTube much. Have you seen those Star Wars speculation videos? They connect dots that aren't even there and talk at length about every new SCRAP of information, because they have to release videos regularly. Jim Sterling raises similar issues over and over and does follow-ups to previous videos, often about problems that we already know are there. These people never make videos that will offend their subscribers, at least not many of them. They preach to the choir. Maybe it's because I hardly play new games anymore, but the politics just aren't that interesting anymore.

I think printed media could arguably be worse. Take for example waiting in line at a grocery store, looking at a cover of Men's Health or some other fitness mag to see regurgitated topics like deja vu from years' past. It's the same way with women's mags. Amazing that so many of them are all still around. I'd rather talk a walk through a forest to appreciate the trees it must take to put out all of this crap year after year.

Bottom line, it too often takes more time than most people have to wade through the sea of marginal content out there in hopes of finding something worth spending it on.

More on-topic, as tropetastical and gamey as the heroics of a character like Aloy may be, she still has a humbleness and grace about her that's far more refreshing than the spoiled brats that the modern brand of feminism has conjured.

It only occasionally works on anything outside of actual quest setup enemies. The random encounter AI just kind of wanders a non-set path, so it doesn't show anything.

Yeah, it's not something you're really going to use. The dinobots you can stealth kill are easy enough to kill when attacking anyways, then Lure makes seeing paths even more pointless. And, the dinobots that are tough to kill, seeing their paths ain't going to help much. And if you really feel like getting by an area without fighting, the stealth outfits work nicely.

He spent so much of the beginning randomly shitting on MGS2 that I stopped caring about the qualities of the game the video was actually about. So I didn't get far into that video. He probably didn't have much to say that I wasn't already aware of.

Huh? There were just a few minor quips about MGS2 in that video. He likes the entire MGS series I believe and did a video about how awesome MGS2 is.

Though I have absolutely no interest in either game, I will say that because of this, I'd be far more likely to get Nier: Automata than I would Horizon: Zero Dawn. Mainly because the story of H: ZD is preachy as all hell.

Is it preachy I need the same way Mad Max Fury road was preachy? Also it's funny that people are calling this a feminist when their are anti-SJW defending it as the opposite.

Ok, having watched the video, I can admit that the guy has a point about being hidden in the grass making you totally invisible. But to be fair, that criticism could be made about many games.

I am in love with Horizon: Zero Dawn, I was excited for the game and I'm glad that the game turned out to be good. B-Cell, I'm asking nicely. Could you at least play a game before declaring it to be shit? There are many games out there that don't appeal to me or I haven't played such as Half Life 2, but I don't go making threads saying that it is shit and that is because I have no experience of playing it.

Haha, the hypocrisy is abundant with just these two videos alone. Basically as long as it's on PC and a good port (they also hated Dark Souls because it wasn't) they'll give a pass to games that are far more guilty of criticisms they leveled at Horizon.

These guys are little more than a modern form of yellow journalism, full of cynical joke-laden, subjective click-bait bias. About the most honest thing he said is calling out his own bs in his last few comments of the FCP review.
