Are there actually any decent horror games on steam I could download? I am just in a horror kinda mood.
I don't mean the "Oh look, a bunch of zombies, I shall blow them to pieces with awesome" kinda horror.
More the atmospheric Horror, where you're constantly touching cloth at the noises and creepy shit going on.

I know there's Res Evil 5 (and for under 8quid too, might get it for a rainy day) and Deadspace... after something a bit less run and gun, more something get into your head.

Resident Evil 5 isn't scary at all.

People recommend penumbra but I thought it was really bad. You might think different.

That's what I mean... those games get classed as horror, and I guess they are, but not exactley shit-you-pants material.

I'll do a search for that game now mate, see what it's about.

If you have Half Life 2, forget buying it. Pop online and download yourself the mod called "Korsakovia". That thing was freaky scary.

Call of Cthulu games are on there. There really aren't that many horror games to begin with.

Cheers

Apparently thought the latest source update screwed it up

Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit is horror mixed with mystery mixed with a movie.

Metro 2033 is a good game for scares although to be honest it more creeps and atmosphere but even then it is a good game,

Penumbra: Black Plague. The other Penumbra games are alright, and worth buying, but Black Plague is the real pant-shitter.

I rather enjoyed Metro 2033. It's a FPS game, but there's more than one way to skin a Nazi. Pretty much the only times you're *required* to firefight is when the mutant hordes show up. There's actually a different ending if you don't kill everything that moves. Also has amazing atmosphere and a good story.

Jericho and Call of C'thulu: Dark corners of the Earth are apparently very scary (Im a sissy so yeah never tried them) but they are known for their uhm "rough" gameplay.
did you try the STALKER games? they arent horror but oh god those damn labs...

Thanks to those who said Metro, already got that gem, love it.

Penumbra looks like it might be along the lines I am looking for.

Gonna have a look at this C'thulu thing as a few people have said too.

Ooohhhh Cthulu has a bethesda stamp on it might just have to give it a go lol

AlphaOmega, I don't think I could play CB's Jericho, after only recently having re-watched Yahtzees review of it, while I don't really let his opinions interfear with my purchases, at the moment I'd just hear him rambling on about all the stuff he hates in it every time I tried to load it up.

The STALKER games have always peaked an interest to me but no, I never got round to actually playing them... while I want to something just makes me think I will be forcing myself to play it, not just "playing" it.
Same feeling about Indego Prophecy... I alway's look at it and think "That might be cool" but then a voice says "Dude, it'll just be another game you played for 4hours then never bothered with again"

I can't believe this thread went 15 posts before someone mentioned Amnesia XD

But yeah, The Dark Descent would certainly be a good choice for genuine horror.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Just beat it tonight. Also recommending Penumbra: Black Plague.

Frictional does horror amazingly. They are literally the only games that can scare me. Most horror never gets me, but Penumbra: Overture, Black Plague, and Amnesia are fucking brilliant.
