Horror-movies that doesn't involve "monsters"?

They never focus on themenough, though. And I'd like to see an actual serial killer, not the shadow of Voldy just looming over there when everybody denies it (although, that does sound remarkably like a horror movie).

What about the werewolf that liked mauling kids? Or the snatchers?

The story is about Harry and co doing stuff. They aren't actively gravitating around them, the way a title of "Harry Potter and the Serial Killer Maniac" would suggest things would go.

Not mentioned that much, though, and not really that scary when eveyrone else is anyway.

Precisely, imagine what the serial killer would need to do, to have a whole story focused on him (or her). The title speaks volumes you somehow ignored.

Final Destinations. And The Happening even though it isn't scary. I laughed when the bodies were falling off the roof. Oh, and when the cop says,"Oh...cheese and crackers!"

American Psycho comes to mind for some reason. You simply watch the movie to see how far the main character goes off his rocker, and also to get some laughs in.

Does The Shining count? Because it's technically got supernatural events joined with serial killers. But it's not even close to the dumb "horror" movies that usually have those elements.

I guess what you mean by "No Serial Killer" is no cliche "Slasher-flicks", etc. With most horror movies, you need.. some sort of antagonist or enemy. So, "Unknown Cause/Entity".. Mystery Horror maybe. Most Supernatural horror is like that... but like someone else said, you're creeping into Thriller territory.

Could the Final Destination films count? I mean, they?re not actually scary and you could make a case that there is a monster in "Death", but there?s no deathly figure ever seen in its physical form, and it?s mostly about fate and the characters dying from Rude Goldberg-esque events.

I see those films as more of a suspense/comedy than anything else. I mean it's suspenseful to see how and who the next one to die is, but the things that happen (love the Rube Goldberg explanation) are just so insanely impossible that it really just becomes funny, kind of like the Saw movies.

I dunno if you'd consider this monster-less but the Descent was pretty good.

Yea, I don't know what was in my head.. maybe thinking of the made-for-TV version that had Stephen King's guiding hand. Which is also good, but you can't beat Kubrick.

I think it meets some of your criteria, if not all, and I rather liked it.

The Saw series? Or more in particular, the first three. I've never considered Jigsaw a 'serial killer', and the first three movies were definitely more focused on creeping you out than trying to 'scare' you with graphic violence. Event Horizon was pretty good, a sci-fi/horror film with Sam Neil and Morpheus.

But like someone already said, what you said you don't want removes almost all of the horror genre. I guess what you'd be looking for is movies within those horror catagories...but good ones. Of which there are few few.
