A game called Haunting Ground has a good atmosphere to it. The graphics are grainy like an old film, and the entire plot realistically revolves around something that isn't that scary ( a woman wakes up in an old castle she finds out she's the sole heir to, and the servant who has a rather Igor-like appearance takes a shine to her). He chases her throughout the game, and while he can kill you, it would seem it's accidental and he actually has a crush on Fiona. You have the help of a wolf as your companion and your "weapon against Debilitas (the servant). You have to constantly keep fiona's fear in check otherwise she freaks out, and the screen goes black and white. She then starts stumbling constantly and running into walls. Not really a scary game in theory, but the atmosphere is top notch, the puzzles really make you think and Debllitas does give you a bit of a shock every now and then. Also the controls are much better than Code: Veronica X *shudder*.
Sounds a bit like Clock Tower: Helpless girl trying to escape from an old mansion, all the while evading a maniac with huge scissors. I have only played the first one, but even for a 16-bit game it was pretty spooky. I recommend.

I'm not easily very scared but I remember there was a moment in Bioshock where I screamed so hard, I actually said to myself: "I haven't screamed this hard since Doom!"
Yeah that's also my problem, I'm not easily scared either, I mean when it come to movies it's been a veryyyy long time since I've seen one that even got me startled.

When it comes to movies The Shining and The Thing are high on my list but horror movies don't exactly have great replay value if you still want to get scared watching them like you did first viewing.

Yup! You nailed it. It mimics the clock tower formula very well, but adds it's own little twist also. I almost referenced Clock Tower in regards to Haunting Ground, but I wasn't sure how extensive your knowledge would be and was afraid you might ask "what the hell's clock tower?"
In any case, I think that Haunting Ground would be right up your alley. i got it for $10 second hand, but I can't believe somebody sold it. I certainy wouldn't.

+1 to Fatal Frame - pant-pissing worthy. Graphics are a bit dated, but were it released on XB360 or PS3, I would need new underwear

Cryostasis is a very creepy game. Creepy in a good way that is. Graphics are not the most brilliant i have seen and the combat is a bit wanting, but man the sound and surroundings are great.I found it very scary, but then i might be a wossy what do i know :)

Be sure to play them at night by yourself with headphones on. Always sets the mood right. ;)

Call of Cthulhu:Dark Corners of the earth is fairly meh, Bit with the shoggoth and the sewer parts are kinda creepy though.

I found the original Silent Hill 1 scarier than Silent Hill 2. That being said I'd recommend any and all of them up to Silent Hill 4 anyway.

I absolutely adore I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream but that being said I'd hardly call it scary it's more just warped and deranged.

The original Alone in the Dark is absolutly terrifying! OH my God! What the hell is wrong with my characters face? Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

The Legacy:Realms of Terror left me with endless nightmares when I was young but trust me it'll only scare you if you have a wild imagination and are about 8 years old.

Vampire the Masquerade:Bloodlines has the haunted Santa Monica seaside hotel and the Hollywood hills home bits but that games got good everything really.

Any bits in the Thief series that deals with the undead or ghosts or giant spiders can and will scare the bejeezus out of you.

The original Obscure remains quite creepy in some bits, although it is rather cheezy in some parts. The second Obscure is less scary but also less cheezy.

Play. Yahtzee's. John. Defoe. Quadrilogy. You can get em from his website. Hadn't been so scared since I first played silent hill. Scary scary scary. Especially the third one.

I was not once and never have been scared at any point in Bioshock, splicers are just too comical and your just packing too much heat to be feeling vulnerable. Still a good game though.

The 7th guest is still kinda scary, sorta.

Penumbra's worth a look.

I found the first play through of Doom3 quite creepy. Any more playthroughs, much, much less.

Cryostasis I personally found interesting but not really terrifying maybe because I played it during a heatwave or because it was laggy as hell, or maybe it's just not that scary.

Aliens Vs Predator 1 and to a lesser extent AVP2 play as the marine, now flinch at the sound of the facehuggers crawling AHAHAHAHAA!

Laugh if you will but I found bits of Conkers Bad Furday scary, sorta.

I have a little gem called The Devil Inside. It's like a cross between Resident Evil, Big brother and the Price is Right. Not so scary but very very odd.

Can't really say about Condemned 2 as I've never played it but Condemned 1 can get to you.

The Thing game was balls. They took the premise of the awesome movie and did absolutly nothing with it. It's so easy to figure out who the thing is, it's anyone your not, seeing as how at the point in the game that they can't go anyfurther due to loading screens or boss fight and whatnot, regardless of whether you do a bloodtest or not they're going to change. Yawn.

Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet is really scary. That is if you find the sound of people doing bad Vincent Price impressions scary of course.

The Half Life series do creepy well in bits.

Hell even Resident Evil can be scary. Why, the story structure quality is simply ghoulish!

Vampire the Masquerade had a really scary mission, you were in a house that was haunted and you read this old newspaper ingame that a kid had have had his head decapatated by a murderer and teh murderer left the head in a drycleaner and as soon you read that part you hear a drycleaner start somewhere...
This. That section was far scarier than any horror game I've ever played. I actually had to put down my headphones and switch to third person, and I'm not that kind of person who gets scared easily.

Penumbra sounds about right. It doesn't have your character gimped or controlling like a tank, it doesn't rely on jump scares, doesn't even have guns, has a VERY freaky atmosphere and the monsters are fucking scary. You don't want to be anywhere near them. Try the demo.

Let's all go to Ravelnholm. I found that atmospheric rather than scary, but I truly enjoyed that mission.

Eternal Darkness has an amazingly creepy atmosphere, and the guns are worthless. Seems like your cup of tea.
Crapping the pants not just because something scary popped up on screen but because something genuinely screwed happens like say walking into a room full of zombies and the games says your controller is disconnected and slowly watching all that workyou put into getting to that point go to waste......then realising it was all a hallucination.

Dude scary, but some scary stuff does actually appear like crazy monsters, really atmospheric
