Well, what does it take to get you scared of a movie?
For me it'd be skeletons, I dont know why, just a phobia
What does it take for you to get scared of a game?
I dont really know what it'd be for me, never really been scared of a game.
What would you do to save your own life or someone elses?

The last move that actually scared me was Drag Me to Hell. But I blame that on the fact I saw it in theatres, and it had pop-out scares with FUCKING LOUD sounds when they jumped out.

The thought of ninja bears jumping out of my TV screen and brutally slicing me to pieces is quite scary.
In games and movies, nothing, really. While atmosphere can make things scary, it doesn't make it scary enough to freak me out. Just scary enough to make me check the corners.

Having watched Saw 3 i was left awake for two hours after, my eyes wide with fear or maybe it was just the sickening feeling i had after listening to skin being ripped and bones broken. The weird "pig" mask that keeps appearing freaks me out also, especially when it jumps out of places.

Movies, well i don't get too scared by movies. Games? Atmosphere is the key, if I feel alone and helpless it doesn't even need to be dark or whatever.

Atmosphere. And those jump-moments. But if the antagonist(s) is ridiculous then it doesn't work anyway.

Movies like [REC]. Actually, not movies like [REC], just [REC]. Most shaky cam movies are just silly but that movie made me want to wet my pants. The thing is, a lot of movies that are labeled as horror movies are not very scary in my opinion. I mean, Let the Right One In is in all the horror sections of stores and it was not even close to being a horror movie. An incredible drama, but not a horror movie.

Also, things that jump out are not scary. They're startling, and there's a big difference. Startling things won't keep you up at night afraid to turn out the lights. In fact, that's why I don't go to see a lot of modern horror movies. It's either just gore or just jump scares, neither of which are scary.

Oh and overall atmosphere. As much as I liked Fatal Frame, I'm at the point where I just cannot play it because it is too scary.

A heavy atmosphere and there's a lot of psychological games that really get inside your head, drawing you in and really making you believe that this is happening and could happen, to you. And it creates a sense of sustained horror, suspense and mindfuckery.

And I would risk a lot more to save someone else's life than my own.

Go see that movie. Now.
yeah, that thing had great atmosphere and was genuinely creepy whilst avoiding cheap scares like loud noises and jump-out shit. Loved it :D

Tried to get a 'horror movie' out for a new year's party, but no-one could come up with one that wasn't just a gore fest or plain crap. The genre seem to be pretty lacking imo - they're either random, nonsensical and so retarded that it would require no less than an act of god to suspend belief sufficiently to enjoy them, or they're just some torture porn that confuses terror with disgust.

If anyone knows of any scary films that don't fall into the two traps outlined above, please, let me know! Drag me to Hell wasn't bad - possibly the best example of the genre I can think of off the top of my head.

not sure what the last movie to scare me was, it would have had to been when i was a kid. now they creep me out, usually when something really gory happens, but they don't scare me

I'm going to let all of you in on a secret of mine.

Dinosaurs scare the shit out of me. I remember playing one of old Turok games on my brothers computer when I was little and it made me cry hysterically.

I'm too much of a pussy to watch horror films, unless they're funny ones like The Hills Have Eyes. Well, I found it funny...

The Trigens in the first Far Cry on PC scare the hell outa me though. When there's like 5 of them running down the corridor at you, snarling and growling, and you're running backwards pumping round after round into them, but they keep on coming.

I was so scared by that once, that a little bit of wee came out.

Hm. Odd trio of questions.

The Grudge and The Grudge 2 scared the everloving crap out of me. I've watched bloody, gory movies since I was a kid, so I think I've built up a bit of a tolerance. J-horror, however, can still break through.

As far as games, it's all about the atmosphere. Silent Hill: Homecoming had it's moments.

I'd do quite a bit to save someone else's life...which strikes me as an odd question to end with...
