I was unforntunate enough to end up in the ER due to an iron supplement overdose(i am fine thank you very much) and had to spend about 4 hours in the ER and get some bloodwork done.

I am aware that bloodwork is very intricate and not cheap but come on.

I went to the hospital and underwent the same admitance procedure that they did at my normal doctor(blood pressure, ears and nose with the light, etc.) and spent 2 hours laying in a bed until they came in, put in an iv and took my blood, then waited for an hour for them to say I was free to go, but had to wait an hour for them to come in and take the iv out and give me my clothes back.

$953.87(roughly 800 euros)

Ridiculus, although my family has insurance, we're not in the best financial situation and its going to be hard to pay the 20% of the bill.

There I am done, critique me, agree with me, contradict me do whaever you wish.

Yeah, I agree. Having to pay these ridiculous sums for medical care is bullshit.

All the more reason to move to Canada....

Sorry to hear this happened. It's sad that you guys have to pay for your medical needs.

I live in Canada, so this has never happened to me.

Hmmm if you pay cash its usually a lot cheaper, sadly since most everyone has insurance it jacks up the price because people don't care how much somehting cost when 80-100% is covered.

Damn. I live in America and don't have to pay for bloodwork. Try to go the cash route such as sneakypenguin suggested... since insurance plans do only cover a 2/3 to 3/4 of what you get billed for simply because they have already negotiated a huge discount.

My insurance is great, so I only had to cover $75 out of a $400 ER visit. I was annoyed that it took so long to actually get the bill though... It took two and a half months!
