I have a question for players.. how often do you experience host advantage in multiplayer games and is there no way that Microsoft/Sony can fix this?

I play a lot of COD4 online and it drives me nuts when I am clearly shooting a guy right in the back of the head for almost a whole second, then he turns and kills me with one shot, and in his kill cam it comes up that he got me before I even started firing...

I always know when the host is nearby because my kills register super quick and I win a lot more one on ones.

It seems like most hosts are American which tends to give UK or European players a disadvantage a lot of the time.

Anyone agree or disagree with me on this?

Sony/MS can't fix it, because as far as I have used my knowledge to deduct how it works (guessed) the feed goes through their internet source, then to yours, so its because their connection isn't strong enough... I will occasionally leave a game though if the host is the only one with an anywhere near decent connection.

Short of standardizing the entire planet`s internet connections or using the dreamcast method of segragating us all into continental ghettos there is no solution

It happens basically all of the time in GeOW. A shame as well; it takes out most tactics involved and ends up being a shotgun dance-a-thon.

I used to play CoD4 all the time, I've never noticed this.

I don't really care about the lag, because I never saw any when I played. But it's a interesting system none the less but I'll still prefer servers over matchmaking any day.

This where I prefer PC online gaming, at least you get to choose to play on servers close to you.

I think as well when I first played on Xbox live with Halo 2 that all the servers were in America, I might be wrong though.

...perhaps Americans have better internet connections on average?

I also experience this but what can i say I'd much rather have shitty lag then be American :D
I'd rather suffer from the laggiest of lag than do that. Not because I dislike Americans, but because I wouldn't get my Irn Bru.

Yeah and also there are a lot more gamers in general from the US from what I can gather from the teamspeak.

Or maybe us Europeans are just a but more shy with our microphones :D

Now that I think about it, every time I've played against a European, they're always the one who destroy everybody. It could be America's apathy. I guess it evens the score a bit.

It makes sense if the European has the host because then most other players will be at a disadvantage to him/her as most of the players will be American... unless i'm just making all this all up in my head :D

I remember the time I wound up hosting a multiplayer game on my computer.
Everyone quit within two minutes.

Dedicated servers are needed BADLY in certain games (especially so for the Gears games).

I've always had a awesome connection, even to people in the UK which confuses me, but whatever. The only game that I've had issues in besides Gears was when some Hawaii folks leaped on to my game of Halo 3.

Well tonight I was convinced beyond doubt... a few of us in the game were down to one red bar including me and I was on shipment firing an RPD with stopping power into a guy literally a couple of feet in front of me and it took him at least 3 seconds of lead pumping to die.

At that range with that weapon you should be paste after a couple ot hits, not most of a magazine.
