Hey escapists.

Who likes swords? Who lives in or around Houston? Who likes swords and lives in or around Houston?

My friends and I do some amateur swordfighting, and I'm looking to make it a larger, established group.

The way it works is: find a park, pull out our blunt practice weapons (Texas law prohibits the carry of blades longer than 5.5 inches. No exceptions are made for unsharpened pieces) and beat each other, full contact.

The rules:
All weapons must be blunt, non-metal material.
Avoid strikes to the face and groin.
When not in combat (someone says stop, is watching on sidelines, etc) do not touch anyone
Don't get mad if you get hit.
Don't get litigious if you get hurt.


All levels of skill are welcome, as are all levels of weapon: bring your dollar-store foam toys or bring out your heavy-duty training weapons.

While I got this thread cleared by mods, I still feel like adding a discussion bit.
I personally favor the bastard sword. It provides me the force I require while providing plenty of mobility. What style do you prefer?

Sadly I don't live anywhere near Houston... or Texas for that matter, otherwise I would love to come beat the tar out of you and your friends with swords! But as for the discussion aspect...

I use a style that is quite frankly... odd and should not be as good as I make it. Lemme see if I can find a vidya game character holding the weapons the same way I do..

Apparently that would be Vella from Vindictus.. But I can't find a picture of her wielding her weapons, that are appropriate for this forum :x

Basically I use dual blades, Left hand held fencer style, right hand.. Jedi form 7? How do I put this into words?

Nonetheless, I am capable of wielding anything in size up to a katana life this due to my strength. I use the right hand primarily as defense, and my left hand to continue the offense. I'm a weird sight to be sure... 310 pounds, but agile and fast as hell, with enough brute strength to deflect blows and carry through with my own. As I said though.. my style is... odd.

Sorry, when I read the quoted I immediately thought of Highlander for some reason.

Also, sorry, can't contribute much. I'm not a great sword expert[footnote]as I hope this pun shows[/footnote] so I don't really have a preference. Nor am I versed in swordfighting styles. Also, I'm not in Houston. Yeah... :/ not really muich of a point to post here.
