I'd say im between acheivement hunter and acheivement whore, i like the extra challange for some of the difficult ones as it can serve as proof for bragging and adds extra replay value, but i then see my selve working for the easier ones which i would probably get over time from playing... but i want then NOW!! XD

The best achievements for me are the ones that reward you some way in your game, not in a gamerscore, iygwim? Like unlocking areas/weaponry and so on....

I like earning achievements just because they give me a stimulus to re-play a game I like.
OT: Even for PC gamers, aren't there like Steam achievements? Or Wow...
Steam has them. I don't care so much about the ones on here, yea there cool but most aren't really "achievements" their things for doing what you came on this site to do, read stuff and watch stuff etc. As for games with achievements I mostly go with competition between friends to see who is better.

I only play PC so my achievements come from the few games is have on my GFWL account, as well as my Steam games account. I try to get as many as possible but not going out of my way to do impossible tasks just for dam achievement... that is unless my friends get them :)

It totally depends. The game I'll use to show my mentallity towards it is Tales of Vesperia...

OK, so in the game, for those who haven't played it, you have 23 fights that have 'secret missions' attached (certain conditions to meet). Each one also has a 5G achievement attached, and once you've beaten all of them you get a title and new costume for one of your characters. Collecting all titles is worth an achievement too. So I've been making sure that I got all the secret missions, but not worried about the titles yet. also, now I'm at the end of the game, just before the final boss fight, I've been backtracking to gather a few achievements before pushing on to the end. I'll gather the rest on a second/third playthrough, when I have the time and once I've enjoyed all the game has to offer. I did a similar thing with Eternal Sonata.

So basically, I like achievements; they're fun, and it's always nice to be rewarded for gaming (even if the rewards aren't material) and to show off your efforts. However, I only go for the full 1000 when I feel up for it.

I am a guy who plays games for fun. Achievements mean very little to me, but I do go for them if I am able to.

If they are near-impossible tasks like "beat the whole game on the hardest difficulty while firing no bullets, killing no enemies, and gathering every piece of intel" then I don't even try for them. Especially when games have it where the bad guys can kill you in one shot while you need to hit them 50 times with the strongest weapon to kill them. You are supposed to be a bad ass and you cannot even beat the first level because the game cheats you out of it.

I understand that challenges are fun, but not when they are damn near-impossible to do or take an over amount of obsession to do.

If I can say, most multiplayer achievements are my worst enemy because I am not good at multiplayer games. I remember FEAR 1 where I beat the game on the hardest difficulty and I only got like 10 achievements out of 47 and only got 50g for all 10. The rest were so unreasonable that I just never played the game anymore. Even on some of the gaming websites they say FEAR 1 had one of the hardest achievement lists to pull off.

I think there are only two games where I got full 100% achievements. Halo 3: ODST and BioShock. (No I do not count the "Play the game on hardest difficulty without dying" as this is near-impossible and was created after the game was released in the last update for the game)

One last thing, I also had this problem with COD4 on the hardest difficulty. It CHEATED me out of the achievement on one level. You have to get into a helicopter in the "All Ghillied up" while carrying someone slow as hell with guys who have 110% accuracy, x-ray vision, and so on. I got ONTO the plane and by this time, the game doesn't let you do anything. You are stuck in the plane. I figured "whew, I made it after dying 50,000 times," but no this was not good enough for it. An enemy throws a grenade right near the plane and it kills me. I could avoid it, I couldn't even move. I could sit there and slowly watch myself get blown up.

It cheated me out of the achievement and that was when I gave up. You think the game would have given me invulnerability when you got on the plane, but no it doesn't.

I am fucking Ravenous.
If I don't get all the goddamn trophies on my game, the game is trying to make me pay money for them. It happens a lot, bastards.

I get achievements in passing, somewhat. I don't aim for them, but if I'm playing warcraft, and I see I'm quite close to getting an achievement for some thing that I was doing anyway, then I'll try a little harder to get it quicker. That's all, really. Oh, and I'm doing the 'explorer' achievements, which requires going out of your way, but not by much. I draw the line when it comes to exerting an actual level of effort, unless I get a reward more than a little box that flashes up.

If it helps me enjoy the game more (like give me upgrades or cash or learn more of the story of the game), then yes, I will complete them. If not, they're fairly pointless, only for people who have nothing better to do with their time.

Sufficient that I'll squeeze games I do buy for all their achievementy goodness, but not sufficient that I buy games just to get the achievements on them.

I go for Archievements when they sound fun (for example: Dead Rising had many interesting ones) or if they are not much more work than just playing ("100 Melee Attacks Archievement? 'kay, i guess i'll go stabby for a bit"), but generally i don't care...although it annoys me a bit that since the latest full system update i get told by my 360 that the only game i've "finished" is Doritos Dash of Destruction.

...Maybe i go for the rest of the Archievements of Arkham Asylum (first game in a VERY long while where i've searched for all collectibles and where i plan to go 100%...but the challenge maps are haaard :[ )

add me if you like, I'm sure we'll never ping good to the same server.

Anyway, I don't like achievements, I can go on a long offtopic rant about it, but instead I sort of learn to live with them instead in games like Quake Live and WoW and things I'm forced to play over steam...

If I 100% a game, it's for reasons other than the achievements. Hell, I don't think Zelda or Metroid had achievements but I did it anyway...

I like achievements, but I don't horde over them. On occassion I might get an achievement and I'll think "oh cool", but I don't usually go out of my way to get EVERY SINGLE achievement within a game.
