That actually might be good for people that are more social. I can't study things like this. I don't know why. Perhaps I like my own speed in which I handle the things.

But agreed on that "don't study too much". Know yourself you must yyyyeeeeesss -Yoda xD
Then I'd recommend doing mind maps. They can organize the most messiest bunch of separate things into a clear hiearchy. Besides effort you'll have to put on one good mind map also forces you to learn.
I have done mind maps to boredom in my teacher studies but not my personal region when it comes to study. I like modelling mind maps in my mind ;) And I don't even know if this is directed to me. I really really don't have any problems in studies :)

But I totally agree with Sampsa that mind maps can be really effective if you like to do those. So everyone should try to make them if one is still studying. Might become your greatest tool for studies.

I usually set up a reward system based on self-control such as "if I do 2 hours work, I'll let myself play Halo:reach for 30 min" or "I'll only eat this bag of candy while doing work"

The latter works surprisingly well for me

I'm also easily distracted, but I've found sort of a two-word solution; do it. Sit down with nothing else around, make studying your only option.

Or if possible, try having a drink. It switches off the overly active parts of your mind, making distraction less likely. As long as you don't go above one drink it should be ok, I just had a rum and lemonade and am about to hit some HTML.

Try thinking of a reward system for yourself. 1 hour of studying, 30 minutes of something you enjoy doing. Repeat until you've studied enough.

Yay, my first thread.

anyways, i have my half yearly exams coming up in 1 and 1/2 weeks time, and i need tips that will help me concentrate on my studying. also, im a very easily distracted person, i really cant focus on things for too long without getting bored or stop doing it all together, and i am really bad at studying. please share all your ideas with me, as all your help is very much appreciated.
Go to the library, and spill half a bottle of water on your pants, now you're forced to sit and study or everyone will think you wet your pants, you gotta wait for it to dry.

Go to a concentration camps.

When I was little and couldn't focus, my parents said they would send me there if I didn't start working. I didn't get it til a few years later.

Music usally helps me when reading. Just focus on the text and use the music itself to keep you from dozing off.

I have the same problem, I once played with a tiny scrap of tissue for three hours instead of doing math homework.

1) Do you ride a bus, public transportation? Because for some reason that helps focus, for me at least, doing homework on the bus.

2) I don't know where you live, but I live in a very rural area, and going outside can do wonders for concentration. Outside in an urban environment may or may not help.

3) Background noise, music, example 2, whatever. Get yourself some background noise.

4) Make it fun. Come up with a goal or something, when I do math I pretend I'm telling someone else how to do it, with narration, jokes and everything. It gives me a purpose.

And that's all I know. I don't study very much (for several reasons) so you may have to adapt these to suit your purposes.
