i really don't see the problem..

i went to an american highschool for a year as a foreign exchange student. pisseasy subjects, very, very few school hours, not much homework either, tons of free time..
people were really nice too, most of the time.

I just tried to grin and bear it for the first three years, didn't do a whole lot for me, so this year I decided to switch to an alternative education program where I only have to stay for 3 hours (provided I get all my work done) and don't have to deal with all of the bullshit in a normal highschool.

well for schoolwork my philosophy was that i could allways go back and do what needed to be done and i still plan to do that to this day, so my actuall work was never given much priority over my social life

and my social life was a rollercoaster to say the least i spent most of my time being a semi popular guy but there was the occasional bit of being down, though this was in the end caused by my first girlfriend leaving and forgetting about me. but this lead me to make a bunch of new good friends so apart from a relationship point of view my social life was great

i only ever worked for the summer because money was never too much of a worry

my sex life to this day is an absolute failure

Well, i just go, i have friends all over so it goes well for me i guess, but it can get somewhat stressful at times, so i either grab a primetime or a beer and kick it.

having to choose subjects that will determine your life - Not really, you choose but it doesn't determine your life.
getting new projects left and right with very little time to complete - Spend more time doing them & not the other things. Wait until education after highschool.
sex - How is this a problem to overcome? Do it now or wait... it'll happen one day.
social life - How is this a problem also? you've got friends, go & do stuff with them. I.E. I go down the pub with my mates every weekend.
temp job - This is still a problem for me. I'll get back to you on that one.
Hahahahaha - I remember thinking this at the time, then I went & did A-Levels. It's 10x worse there.

Now I'm doing Uni & the only real problems is passing the course, getting a job and coping with money. The others occur naturally :D but the stress far outweighs a lot of the time. Just pucker up and get through it. Don't do drugs, I'm doing great without them, one of my friends who did is now in prison. Alcohol, coffee, junkfood, a car & videogames will get you through. Also spend 2-4 hours a day revising if you're crap academically like me, just so you don't fail. I'm lucky & don't put on weight, but still you should run around your house area a few times, twice a week.

This is not the best idea but it was MY answer. I did drugs, tons and tons of drugs, LSD, mushrooms, speed ect. You name it, I was on it. Oddly enough I also taught a bunch of people to play Magic the gathering, many of those same people went on to play in tournaments with me. So drugs and magic my answer to high school. Of the two while the drugs are cheaper, Magic has the more lasting appeal. I'd suggest you learn to play Magic.

how did you make it through this mine field

as added bonus all my friends and anyone else that went to primary school
all went to different schools
and the people in this school are completely different to those that I went to primary school with
Wow. High school a minefield? High school was one of the easiest times I've ever had.

How did I go through it? I excelled in all my classes. Paid attention during all lectures and at home I wrote crappy novels and anime fan-fiction. I went into National Honors Society where I met some cute girls to hang out with (I dated one for a brief time) I would also go and hang out with my more social friends at malls and bookstores and stuff. And during my senior year I picked up a part time job. I couldn't hang out as much, but when I did, I had money to burn. I never had sex or dated very seriously, cuz I learned from watching my other friends that doing all of that lead to way too much drama and I avoided it at all costs.

Just go through it dude (or dudette) Find a balanced schedule that works for you and stick to it. Plan activities with your friends after study time. Find and join some clubs in your high school that pique your interests and meet new people. Do well in school (as others have said, it won't make that much difference, but I find doing well at things makes life a whole lot more stress free) and roll with the punches.

In four years, that's it. Get your piece of paper and move on to bigger things.

And don't let those teachers fool you. Unless you're taking AP classes, the classes you take in high school really aren't going to shape your life too much. It isn't until your junior year in college that you need to worry about stuff like that. So, take whatever classes interest you and don't forget to take some easy classes to boost that GPA.

That's pretty much it. :)

1) Went to a school were none of my primary school friends go to.
2) Its an all boys grammar school. = No sex life.
3) Created a persona of some untouchable boss. Literally it worked so well, and there was this one incidence where some rumour circled around the whole school about me and some girl on webcam (It wasn't true >.>) But it meant that I became an instant legend and I still get random kids come up to me and ask "Are you that guy who..." So it works quite well.

So yeah I was kinda lucky I guess D:

I left. And I would have gotten away with it too if it had been the time where you could just walk into a factory and get a job!

Yeah, not the smartest idea ever but I couldn't handle getting the shit kicked out of me everyday along with being not only ignored but belittled and insulted by the teachers themselves.
So, fuck it, I left and have been so much happier ever since. >.>
I did the same thing I just left mainly because I was extremely tired. Also I started to get chronic back pain and headaches.

Just dealt with it, that is until I found out that the entire curriculum was based on the test that determines their budget.... After that I used every chance I could get to throw those damn tests in their face. Pfft and they wonder why America's schools are lacking. But ya back to the question, Like minded individuals, Magic the Gathering, showing the school system what I think about them tests.

Heh I remember a teacher almost punching me when I ripped that damn test and walked out of the class.

It's all about balance, I did my work but still left time for friends and whatever, eventually I stopped doing math and science homework because I was amazing at it, and my GF at the time asked me out. So that was luck, but the key is balance. Don't abandon HW, but don't obsess over it either and become a recluse.

Hmm to be honest I should have been sacked with so many truancy fines I never should have been allowed to graduate, I was a proverbial shadow in those days and I got two high school diplomas (It's an interesting story but not for here).

My father left right before I got into high school so it was better than middle school.

Only had two friends back then and that was all I needed, they'd take a bullet for me and I would do the same for them.

Last year of it I got an interesting job and started manning up and helped my mother sort out her life.

In short there isn't a one size fits all thing, it could be harder for you or easier, just don't do stupid things and if there's a crime report it.

It was basically wake up > school > Is my class fun? If yes > stay else >leave and go play jazz with my buddies.

Then I'd get home and dick around on the internet and play video games. And on the weekends I'd gig a little and hang out with my friends.

Notice that this never included studying or homework... Probably should have done some.

Kept my head low, had a small circle of friends I could confide in, worked hard in my classes but not so hard that I drove myself to high stress levels.

I guess the best word I could use is I...coasted my way through high school.

I did well enough to graduate, get into college and I'm currently working through that.

High School was never all that bad for me.

Let's see... 9th grade I just ignored the idiots, and since they were all wimps, there was no physical assaults, to my chagrin. 10th I was homeschooled due to moving around a lot. The last two years were back in my hometown, where I was pretty well left the fuck alone unless I made it clear that I was in the mood for company.

As for sex, jobs, and social life: I had none of those. I wasn't interesting in any of the available girls that I could have gotten, I didn't bother with a social life because I didn't particularly like hardly anyone in the school to begin with, and I didn't need a job because I was getting survivor's benefit.

By kind of coasting through it in every sense of the word. You know the saying, "nothing ventured, nothing gained"? That describes my high school years in a nutshell. Classes were easy (except for that one goddamn pre-cal class that I failed the second semester of), I had no extracurricular activities, few friends, and never dreamed of dating.

I was, in a word, a loser. But it certainly wasn't hard for me; just boring.

Luckily, my university and my attitude towards it are a thousand times better than high school. I actually look forward to school. Interesting classes, far fewer useless people (though there are still some), crazy-awesome extracurricular activities, and ROTC. I don't think it's too much of an exaggeration to say that this is the best time of my life so far.

So no worries, pal. It gets better. A lot better.

Oh, and by the way?

No. High school in no way determines your life. I mean, your grades and test scores determine what college you get into, and what kind of scholarships you can get ahold of. But beyond that, it's all meaningless. If you aren't intending to go to college, you just need to pass. If that's what's stressing you out, you can stop worrying right now: people telling you that your high school career matters in the long run are full of crap.

I never found high school that hard. Went to class, did homework in my other classes so I didn't have as much at home. I only worked 10 hours so it was never a burden but still gave me money do have fun. Didn't have much of a social life sine my friends were always working on scholarships or had more hours, but we still got together and had fun from time to time. If I felt depressed I just thought of how much worse my life could be which cheered me up.

Then I went to college and I hate my life and he only career choice I can think of right now is serial arsonist who burns down universities.
