How do Crackdown and Crackdown 2 compare gameplay wise?

I'm interested in getting Crackdown - it's currently quite a bit cheaper than Crackdown 2, and a lot of reviews suggest it's better and more interesting. There's only a Crackdown 2 demo available to download, so I tried that out, and gameplay is fairly fun (within the 30 minute time limit), so I'm wondering if that's representative of Crackdown's gameplay as well.

Thanks!

Gameplay-wise they are not too different. Crackdown 2 boasts a slightly more fine-tuned agility system, though the differences are minute.

Melee combat in the first Crackdown consisted only of kicking people and throwing things at them (as well as the jump attack). Crackdown 2 added the slightly more advanced melee system. Though here, differences are mostly aesthetic. You can punch and kick and do all your macho moves in Crackdown 2 with more style than before but they hardly differ in power and usefulness.

Other than that...I would say vehicles in Crackdown 2 are a little dumbed down and less fun to use (IMO). Only the addition of the helicopter was truly different.

In all though, I would say get Crackdown 1. It was definitely the better game of the two. I played the hell out of it for a long time after I first got it. The Keys to the City mode is worth more than the rest of the game itself.

Sounds good, I was leaning towards it anyway, but I don't really feel like wasting even $10 if it ends up being something wildly different from what I first thought. Looks like I'll have a lot of fun with it.

I played the campaign/story mode to full completion, then moved on to keys to the city (which is basically even more free roam plus the ability to manipulate the game world with super cheats) and played that even longer.

Crackdown 1, well worth the money plus some. Crackdown 2...not as much, though I guess it wasn't a total loss since I had good friends to play it with. But that was about its only redeeming factor.
