I'm playing X-Box and in the game I'm playing I have to click a button fast enough to keep it between two lines.

I NEED to do this to continue the game, but I can't quite keep it balance long enough.

Can anyone give me tips on how to click a button really fast on a X-Box controller?

Honestly. Click it really fast.
There's no "tips" other than that. Try using a different finger to press the button with.

It's really all about reflexes. I don't have any tips, I am used to pushing buttons fast from different games that require it. If anything, try using your strongest finger, or use two fingers on the same button. That's what my brother does for games, and he seems to be fine by doing it.

What do you think the fastest finger is?

Press your thumb and forefinger together and make sure you're using your (forefinger's) nail rather than the tip of your finger. Your nail has less give so it will allow you to snap off the presses faster, and the thumb positioning will give you more leverage. If possible, place your controller on a flat surface too so that you can maximize that leverage. Treat it like an old school arcade machine.

Practice makes perfect. I used to not be able to pass the Metal Gear Solid torture sequence. Now I can.

(I still can't pass the Metal Gear Solid 2 torture sequence on extreme. Something of a wall-banger for me there, as I like to beat the difficulty. "Why is this here? What possible purpose could the button-mashing have except to infuriate me? Its even worse than those damn quick-time events!")

Watch out for your mashing weakening due to fatigue. This gets lots of people, me included. You'll find that you're keeping up with the game easily at first, only to find your stamina draining off as time goes on.

Personally, I use my index or middle finger to button mash. Then I use the nerve impulses in my arm and forearm to press the button even faster. It hurts like a son of a fucker afterwards, though.

Thank you SO much!

That worked REALLY well! I did it with ease!

I'll have to remember that.

I usually lick the tip of my finger and then rub it over the button on the rare game where I cannot just press the button fast enough.

Honestly through can they get anymore annoying, some peoples bodies are just not build to press things rapidly.

I take my entire hand off the controller, put my thumb on the button and kind of shake my thumb violently. Hard to explain, but I NEVER lose chainsaw duels.

I just vibrate my arm with my index finger held in place. Kind of like shivering.

i guess you've donde this but release the control with the hand you are going to press it and hold it with the other.
use the index.
dont press it hard, just hard enough.
dont retrieve the finger back from the button too much.
most(if not all) of the motion is on the wrist so pay attention to that.
i press the index and thumb togheter to have more stability on the index.

I recall reading something about using one of those spring-loaded ballpoint pens to press press buttons at a phenomenal rate.
It got quite in-depth. Apparently beating QTEs is an art unto itself..

Great! Glad it worked. I picked that way up from an interview with Takahashi Meijin, the executive of Hudson Soft, who has some sort of crazy record for most button presses in a single second. He's insane at those old top down shooters that required one button press per bullet fired.

The best tip i can give is to try not looking at the screen but to stare at the floor or something, used to do it for track and field

Only advice I can give is to not try too hard as to actually slow down your rate of executions. I used to have that problem due to my relinquishing all my strength into m thumbs...and I broke a few controllers.
that was when some part of me believed that more force = more repetitions..

so relax and use your fastest finger.
